This is a portable basketball system: a backboard and ring on an adjustable-height pole, standing on a base you fill with water or sand.
The adjustable height is the feature that matters and it is worth explaining why. A regulation hoop is ten feet from the ground. A nine-year-old cannot reach that with any recognisable shooting motion, so they do the only thing available and throw the ball with both hands from the chest. That is a habit which takes years to unlearn and which limits them permanently. Drop the hoop to eight feet and the same child shoots one-handed, with a proper release, and scores – and a child who scores keeps playing.
A portable stand solves the other problem, which is that most people have nowhere to put a permanent hoop. There is no post to concrete into the ground, no wall strong enough to take a rim, and often no permission to alter the property. A weighted base needs none of that.
Fill the base completely. This is the single commonest mistake with portable hoops: a part-filled base lets the water slosh and the whole stand rocks with every shot, which is both annoying and, with children hanging on the rim, genuinely unsafe. Water is easier to drain when you want to move it; sand is heavier and more stable but effectively permanent.
Do not let anyone hang on the rim of a portable hoop. A free-standing stand can be pulled over, and the weight coming down is considerable. That is the one rule worth enforcing.
