A rim is the most abused component on any basketball court. It takes the impact of every missed shot, it gets hung on, and outdoors it rusts at the welds. Backboards and poles usually outlive several rims, which is why replacing the ring on its own is the sensible repair rather than buying a whole new system.
Net loops matter more than people expect. A standard basketball rim has twelve net loops; some recreational rims have ten. This one comes with a 10-loop net that matches it. If you are replacing a net rather than a rim, count the loops on your rim first – a 12-loop net will not fit a 10-loop rim properly and will hang crooked.
On dimensions, be careful. Our supplier describes this ring as 21 inches, and a regulation FIBA rim is 450 to 459 mm inside diameter, which is about 18 inches. A 21-inch figure is therefore either an outer measurement across the mounting flange, or a non-regulation recreational rim. If you need a regulation rim – for a school court, a club or anything competitive – ask us to measure the inside diameter of the stock before you order. We would rather check than have you fit the wrong thing.
Mount it to something genuinely solid. A rim takes far more force than it looks, particularly if anyone dunks on it, and a rim bolted to a thin board or a soft wall will pull out – usually taking a chunk of wall with it.
