This is a full-height portable basketball system – steel pole and frame, backboard and ring, a fillable base and wheels – that adjusts up to the regulation ten feet.

The wheels matter more than the specification sheet suggests. Most people who buy a portable hoop have one realistic place for it: a driveway, a yard, a strip of hard standing that also has another job. A stand that cannot be moved becomes an obstacle within a week and an argument within a month. With wheels on the base, one person tips it back and walks it aside in a few seconds.

Reaching the full ten feet is the other half. A hoop that tops out at nine feet is fine for children and useless for adults – it flatters everyone-s shot and nobody learns anything transferable. This one reaches regulation height, and lowers for younger players, which is the combination that lets a household with a range of ages share it.

Fill the base completely, with water or sand. A partly filled base lets the whole stand rock when the ball hits the backboard, which is unpleasant to play on and unsafe with children around. What height should the hoop be set to?

3,050 mm - ten feet - is regulation for adults and high school. For children, lower it: about 8 ft for under-10s and 9 ft for under-12s. A hoop set too high for a child teaches them to throw the ball rather than shoot it, and that habit lasts.

What should I fill the base with?

Water is easier to empty when you want to move the stand; sand is heavier and more stable but effectively permanent. Whichever you use, fill it completely - a part-filled base sloshes and lets the stand rock. In a windy spot, sand and a couple of sandbags on the base frame are worth the trouble.

How do the wheels work?

Tilt the stand back onto them and walk it, the way you move a wheelbarrow. They are for repositioning on a hard surface, not for towing it across a garden. Drain the base first if you are moving it any distance.

Can children hang on the rim?

No. The stand is held down only by the weight of its base and a person hanging on the ring can pull it over. This is the one rule worth enforcing absolutely, and it is why permanently concreted hoops exist.

Will it survive being left outside?

The steel will, with occasional attention to rust at the welds and any chipped paint. The net will not - sun destroys nylon within months here, and a chain net is worth fitting for a permanent outdoor hoop.

What height should I set it for children?

About 8 ft for under-10s and 9 ft for under-12s. A child shooting at a ten-foot hoop cannot use a real shooting motion and learns to throw instead, which is very hard to correct later.

Is it stable enough for adults playing hard?

With the base properly filled, for normal shooting and play, yes. It is not built for dunking or for anyone using the rim as a pull-up bar. If you want a hoop that takes that, it needs to be concreted in.
