Accessories

Non-slip football socks with grip on the inside and the sole. The grip is the point: a sock that lets the foot slide inside the boot costs you traction on every turn, and it is the reason blisters form. They also hold a shin guard where it belongs.

Highlights

Grip inside the boot

A sliding foot costs traction on every turn you make.

Non-slip grip

Silicone or rubberised pads that stop the foot sliding inside the boot on a hard turn.

Fewer blisters

Blisters come from the foot moving against the sock. Stop the movement and you stop the blister.

Holds the shin guard

The Law requires guards to be covered by the socks. A grippy sock keeps them in place too.

Wash them properly

Inside out, cool, no fabric softener - softener clogs the grip and ends its usefulness.

Product description

About this product

Football Sports Socks – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

Non-slip football socks, with grip patterning on the inside and the sole.

The grip is the entire product and it addresses a real problem. Inside a boot, the foot slides against the sock and the sock slides against the insole – and every millimetre of that movement is traction you are not getting when you plant a foot to turn. Silicone or rubberised grip pads lock the foot to the sock and the sock to the boot, and the difference on a hard change of direction is noticeable.

The second benefit is blisters, and it follows from the same mechanism. A blister forms when skin moves repeatedly against a surface under pressure. Stop the movement and you stop the blister – which is why grip socks are common among players who train most days, and why they matter more in this heat, where sweat makes everything inside a boot slide more.

And they do the ordinary job a football sock does: holding a shin guard in place, which Law 4 requires, and covering it.

Wash them inside out, cool, and without fabric softener. Softener coats the grip pads and is the fastest way to turn a grip sock into an ordinary one.

Dry them properly rather than sealing them damp in a kit bag – in Dar humidity that is how the smell starts.

Questions

Good to know

How do grip socks actually help?

By stopping the foot sliding inside the boot. Every millimetre of that movement is traction lost when you plant a foot to turn. The grip pads lock the foot to the sock and the sock to the boot.

Do they really prevent blisters?

They help substantially. A blister forms when skin moves repeatedly against a surface under pressure - stop the movement and you remove the cause. That is why they are common among players who train most days.

Can I wear them with shin guards?

Yes, and you must wear something over the guards - Law 4 requires shin guards to be covered by the socks. A grippy sock also holds the guard in place better than a plain one.

How should I wash them?

Inside out, in cool water, with no fabric softener. Softener coats the silicone grip pads and is the quickest way to turn a grip sock into an ordinary sock.

Do they wear out?

The grip does, eventually - the pads thin with washing and use. The sock will still be wearable long after it has stopped gripping properly, which is worth knowing when yours stop feeling different from ordinary socks.

Are they worth it in this heat?

More than in a temperate climate, arguably. Sweat makes everything inside a boot slide more, so the problem grip socks solve is worse here.

How does the climate here affect equipment?

Heat raises the pressure inside an inflated ball, so a ball pumped in the cool morning and left on a sunlit pitch is harder by the afternoon - inflate toward the lower end of the range. UV degrades stitching, PU covers and net twine, so keep balls and nets out of prolonged direct sun when they are not in use. And dry kit properly rather than sealing it damp in a bag.
