Highlights

Fifty-one LEDs, one dark room

Wide UV coverage for inspecting a whole area, not a spot.

51 UV LEDs

Far wider coverage than a single-LED torch, so you sweep a carpet or a mattress rather than hunting square by square.

395 nm blacklight

The wavelength that lifts urine, food stains, security inks and scorpions out of the dark.

Aluminium body

Machined aluminium alloy with a textured anti-slip grip, not a plastic shell.

IPX4 and AA power

Splash resistant, running on three ordinary AA batteries.

Product description

About this product

A single-LED UV torch shows you a coin-sized circle at a time. This one has 51 LEDs, which puts a broad pool of 395 nm ultraviolet across a carpet, a mattress or a hotel bedspread in one sweep. That is the difference between checking a room and giving up halfway through.

It is built for the job: aluminium alloy body with a scratch-resistant finish, textured non-slip grip, one-button operation, and an IPX4 rating so a wet hand or a light rain is not a problem. It runs on three AA batteries, which are supplied separately.

Questions

Good to know

Why 51 LEDs instead of one bright one?

Coverage. Fifty-one LEDs spread the UV over a wide area, so you can sweep a mattress or a carpet quickly. A single-LED torch gives a brighter, tighter spot and takes far longer to search with.

What does a UV light actually show?

Anything that fluoresces: dried pet or human urine, many food and drink spills, some inks, security threads in banknotes and ID documents, and certain minerals. It also makes scorpions glow, which is the reason a lot of people in warmer regions own one.

Will it check Tanzanian shilling notes?

Yes, the security features in modern shilling notes fluoresce under UV, as do most foreign notes and ID cards. At 395 nm you will see a violet cast over everything as well as the mark; a 365 nm light shows the mark more cleanly but costs considerably more.

Is it safe?

Do not look into the lens, do not shine it at anyone's eyes or skin for any length of time, and keep it away from children. Short, aimed use on a surface or a document is fine.

Does it work in daylight?

Barely. UV inspection needs a dark room or night. Draw the curtains before you start looking for stains.

Why do stains glow but the carpet does not?

Because the organic compounds in the stain fluoresce and the fibres mostly do not. That contrast is the whole trick, and it is why a UV torch finds what a bright white light cannot.

How should I store it?

Take the batteries out if it will sit unused for months. Alkaline cells left in anything in this climate eventually leak and corrode the contacts.
