If the P20iX is the flood and the P30i is the thrower, the P23i is the one in between, and for most buyers it is the right answer. A Luminus SFT-70 LED gives 3,000 lumens and 55,300 candela, putting the beam 470 metres out while still lighting the ground in front of you.

Dual tail switches give tactical operation with STROBE READY for instant strobe, and five brightness levels cover everything from reading to searching. The supplied NL2150HPi 21700 cell holds 5,000 mAh and charges in the light over USB-C, with a power indicator that reads out voltage.

Good to know

How does it compare with the P20iX and the P30i?

The P20iX floods 4,000 lumens over a wide area but only reaches 221 m. The P30i throws 1,000 m but is a much bigger light. The P23i sits between them at 470 m with a beam you can still use close in, which is why it suits most people.

What does the strike bezel do?

Ceramic teeth at the head for breaking vehicle glass. It also means the head survives being set down hard on concrete.

Can I use any 21700 cell?

It is an i-series light, built around Nitecore's 21700i cells. Stay with the supplied NL2150HPi or an equivalent i-series cell; ordinary flat-top 21700s may not make contact correctly.

How long on maximum?

Minutes, as with every light of this output, before temperature regulation steps it down to a sustainable level. The lower levels are where the 45-hour figure comes from.

Is it good for night driving breakdowns?

Yes. Five levels means you can light a wheel change without blinding yourself, then reach 470 metres up the road to see what is coming.

How should I store it?

With the cell at around half charge if it will sit for months, out of a hot car. Heat is what kills lithium cells in this climate, not use.

Does it come with a holster?

Yes, plus a clip and a lanyard.
