Product description

About this product

Muc-Off sell this lube today as Bicycle Dry Weather Lube – the same product long known as Bio Dry Lube, renamed rather than reformulated. This is the 120 ml bottle, the size that makes sense if you ride most weeks or look after more than one bike.

It is a drip-on chain oil for dry, dusty riding, which covers most of the Tanzanian year outside the two rainy seasons. The formula penetrates into the roller and pin of each link, then sets to a drier film that dust and fine grit struggle to cling to. A wet lube used in the dry season turns into a black grinding paste within a couple of rides on Dar roads; a dry lube keeps the chain quieter and the cassette far cleaner.

Muc-Off state the formula is PTFE free and that the contents are biodegradable. Apply to a clean, dry chain, one drop per link, then wipe the outside of the chain so only the lube inside the links remains.

Questions

Good to know

Is this the right choice for Tanzanian conditions?

For most of the year around Dar es Salaam you are riding in heat and fine dust, which is dry-lube territory - a dry or wax lube leaves a drier film that dust does not stick to. Switch to a wet lube through the long rains in March to May and the short rains in November and December, when washing off matters more than staying clean.

How often should I re-apply?

On dry dusty roads, roughly every 100 to 150 km or whenever the chain starts to sound dry. After any wet or muddy ride, clean and re-lube rather than adding lube on top of grit.

How do I apply it properly?

On a clean, dry chain: one drop per link, back-pedal a few turns to work it into the rollers, leave it to settle, then wipe the outside of the chain with a rag. Lube left on the outer plates does nothing except collect dust.

Do I need to degrease the chain first?

Yes, and it matters more than which lube you pick. Fresh lube laid over old lube and grit just seals the grit inside the links. Degrease, rinse, let it dry fully, then lubricate.

How should I store it in this climate?

Keep it out of direct sun and away from a hot car boot. Aerosols and solvent-based products do not enjoy sitting at 40 degrees C, and a cupboard indoors is fine. Close the cap properly - humidity on the coast gets into anything left open.

I ride near the coast. Does salt air matter?

It does. Salt-laden air off the Indian Ocean accelerates corrosion on chains, cassettes, cables and bolts far faster than inland. Rinse the bike after a beach or Kigamboni ride, dry it, and re-lube - that single habit does more for drivetrain life here than any upgrade.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and send nationwide to Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond by courier. Call or WhatsApp us if you need a same-day drop in the city.
