Product description

About this product

Muc-Off’s wet-weather chain lube, sold today as Bicycle Wet Weather Lube, in the 50 ml drip bottle. This is the bottle to reach for when masika starts in March and again for the short rains in November.

A wet lube has one job a dry lube cannot do: stay on the chain while water runs over it. Muc-Off build this one to be ultra-durable over long distances in wet or muddy conditions, with extreme-pressure additives that coat every part of the link so the gear change stays smooth when the drivetrain is loaded and soaked.

Muc-Off also state that the formula is derived from natural ingredients and made entirely from renewable sources – unusual for a lube in this class.

The trade-off is dust. The same tackiness that survives rain collects grit in the dry season, so this is a seasonal bottle rather than an all-year one. Keep a dry lube alongside it and switch with the weather.

Questions

Good to know

Dry lube or wet lube for Tanzania?

Dry lube for most of the year around Dar es Salaam, because it sheds dust. Wet lube through the long rains in March to May and the short rains in November and December, when the chain needs a film that survives being rinsed constantly.

Why not just use wet lube all year?

Because it is sticky by design. Through the dry season that tackiness turns into a grinding paste of dust and oil within a couple of rides on Dar roads, which wears the chain and cassette far faster than running a dry lube would.

How do I apply it properly?

On a clean, dry chain: one drop per link, back-pedal a few turns to work it into the rollers, leave it to settle, then wipe the outside of the chain with a rag. Lube left on the outer plates does nothing except collect dust.

Do I need to degrease the chain first?

Yes, and it matters more than which lube you pick. Fresh lube laid over old lube and grit just seals the grit inside the links. Degrease, rinse, let it dry fully, then lubricate.

What about the rainy season?

During masika (March to May) and vuli (November to December) you are washing mud off constantly. Clean and re-lube after every wet ride rather than weekly - grit left in a wet chain grinds the drivetrain down quickly.

I ride near the coast. Does salt air matter?

It does. Salt-laden air off the Indian Ocean accelerates corrosion on chains, cassettes, cables and bolts far faster than inland. Rinse the bike after a beach or Kigamboni ride, dry it, and re-lube - that single habit does more for drivetrain life here than any upgrade.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and send nationwide to Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond by courier. Call or WhatsApp us if you need a same-day drop in the city.

Can I get spares and support locally?

Yes. We stock consumables and the common wear parts, and we can advise on what fits your bike before you buy. Bring the bike or a clear photo of the drivetrain if you are unsure.
