About this product

Suspension forks have a specific problem: stiction. The wiper seals grip the stanchion tubes, and until the fork has moved enough to break that grip it simply does not respond to small bumps. The result is a fork that feels harsh over trail buzz while being perfectly good over the big hits.

Silky Suspension Serum is a silicone-infused fluid applied to the stanchions to reduce exactly that friction. A few drops wiped along the exposed tube, the fork cycled a few times, and small-bump sensitivity improves measurably. It is the cheapest suspension upgrade there is.

It also repels muck, which keeps the stanchions cleaner and reduces the chance of grit working past the wiper seals into the fork. That is the failure that ruins fork oil and eventually the seals themselves – and on dusty Tanzanian trails, grit is the main thing shortening suspension service intervals.

Apply it to clean stanchions – wiping serum over grit just carries the grit into the seal. Wipe the tubes down first, then apply.

What is stiction?

The friction between the fork wiper seals and the stanchion tubes that has to be overcome before the fork starts moving. High stiction means the fork ignores small bumps and feels harsh, even if the damping and spring are set correctly.

How do I apply it?

Clean the stanchions first with a dry cloth. Put a few drops on a clean cloth, wipe it along the exposed stanchion, then cycle the fork several times so it works under the wiper seals. Wipe off any excess.

How often?

Before most rides is not excessive - it takes under a minute. At minimum, after every wash and any dusty ride.

Does it work on a rear shock too?

Yes, on the shock body where the seal runs, and on a dropper post shaft. Same method.

Can I use it instead of servicing the fork?

No. It reduces friction at the seal, but it does not replace the fork oil or the seals inside. Keep to the manufacturer service interval - and in dusty conditions, service more often rather than less.

Is this the right choice for Tanzanian conditions?

For most of the year around Dar es Salaam you are riding in heat and fine dust, which is dry-lube territory - a dry or wax lube leaves a drier film that dust does not stick to. Switch to a wet lube through the long rains in March to May and the short rains in November and December, when washing off matters more than staying clean.

How should I store it in this climate?

Keep it out of direct sun and away from a hot car boot. Aerosols and solvent-based products do not enjoy sitting at 40 degrees C, and a cupboard indoors is fine. Close the cap properly - humidity on the coast gets into anything left open.
