About this product

Foam Fresh is for the soft kit, not the bike. Helmet liners, gloves, shoes, pads and body armour – everything that sits against the rider and, in this climate, absorbs a great deal of sweat.

It sprays as a foam rather than a liquid, which is deliberate: the foaming action agitates dirt out of a fabric or a pad without soaking it through. Padding that gets properly wet takes days to dry in Dar humidity and comes back smelling worse than it started. Foam lifts the grime and evaporates.

It finishes with what Muc-Off call a citric burst fragrance, which is a fair description.

This matters more here than in a temperate country. A helmet liner in Tanzanian heat is soaked after every ride, and left untreated it goes from unpleasant to genuinely unhygienic within weeks. Treating it takes thirty seconds after a ride and makes a helmet last considerably longer than sweat-soaked foam otherwise would.

What can I use it on?

Helmet liners and pads, gloves, cycling shoes, body armour, knee and elbow pads - anything soft that touches the rider.

Why foam rather than a liquid?

Because soaking padding is the problem, not the solution. In Dar humidity a wet pad takes days to dry and comes back smelling worse. Foam agitates the dirt out without saturating the material.

How do I use it?

Spray the foam onto the liner or pad, let it work for a minute, wipe with a damp cloth, then let it air-dry out of direct sun. Do not put a helmet liner in a washing machine.

How often should I do it?

After every few rides in this heat, or immediately after any particularly sweaty one. It is easier to stay on top of than to rescue.

Can I use it on a helmet shell?

The product is for the soft liner and padding. Wipe the shell itself with a damp cloth and mild soap - and never use solvents on a helmet shell, which can weaken it.

How should I store it in this climate?

Keep it out of direct sun and away from a hot car boot. Aerosols and solvent-based products do not enjoy sitting at 40 degrees C, and a cupboard indoors is fine. Close the cap properly - humidity on the coast gets into anything left open.

Will it get rid of an existing smell?

It will help considerably, but nothing fully rescues padding that has been left soaked for months. Start treating kit while it is still fresh and it stays that way.
