A dedicated brake cleaner for motorcycle disc brakes. Its job is to strip the contaminants that compromise braking – road film, oil mist, chain lube fling, brake dust – and leave the disc and surrounding hardware genuinely clean rather than smeared.

What sets this one apart from a generic brake cleaner is that Muc-Off add conditioners that rehydrate the brake pad material. A pad that has glazed or dried out squeals and bites inconsistently; rehydrating the friction surface is aimed at reducing that squeal and extending the useful life of both pad and disc.

On a motorcycle here, chain lube fling is the usual culprit. An over-lubricated chain throws oil onto the rear disc every ride, and the result is a back brake that feels vague long before the pads are actually worn.

What causes a contaminated brake in the first place?

On a motorcycle, most often chain lube flung off an over-lubricated chain onto the rear disc. Also road oil, and any spray or polish that drifted onto the disc during cleaning.

Will it stop brake squeal?

Often, yes. Muc-Off include conditioners that rehydrate the pad material, and glazed or dried-out pads are a common cause of squeal. A pad that is genuinely contaminated through may still need replacing.

How do I use it?

Spray generously onto the disc and caliper area, let the contaminants run off, and let everything dry completely before riding. Then bed the brakes in with several gentle stops before relying on them.

Can I spray it while the bike is hot?

Let the brakes cool first. Spraying a cold liquid onto a hot disc is not good for the disc, and the product will flash off before it can work.

How should I store it in this climate?

Keep it out of direct sun and away from a hot car boot. Aerosols and solvent-based products do not enjoy sitting at 40 degrees C, and a cupboard indoors is fine. Close the cap properly - humidity on the coast gets into anything left open.

What do I do with the dirty water?

Do not pour drivetrain runoff into a storm drain. Degreaser and old chain lube carry heavy metal particles from the chain. Let the solids settle in a bucket, dispose of the residue with solid waste, and pour the rest onto ground rather than into a drain.
