This is the large gas braai – four main burners at 3 kW each under a 71 x 42 cm cast iron grate, plus a 2.5 kW side burner. The size is obvious enough. What is less obvious, and matters more, is what four independent burners let you do.
With four separate controls you get zones. The two burners at one end run hot for searing steak; the far end sits low so chicken pieces cook through without burning; the side burner handles the sauce. Nothing has to come off the grill to wait. On a two-burner grill you are always compromising between those jobs. On this one you are not, which is the real reason to buy the larger model rather than simply to cook more at once.
The grates are cast iron, which holds heat and sears properly rather than letting the temperature collapse each time cold meat goes down. Four stainless steel flame spreaders sit under them to even the heat and catch fat before it flares. There is an enamelled warming rack above for holding finished food, and a single lid that turns the grill into an oven when you close it – a whole chicken, a leg of lamb, or simply keeping the heat in when the wind gets up.
Overall it measures 135 x 53 x 101 cm on a wheeled frame, so it rolls out for a gathering and back against the wall afterwards. It runs on LPG, butane or propane. The regulator and hose are not included, because the right fitting depends on which cylinder you use – tell us which brand you have and we will supply the correct one with the grill.
