About this product

This is the stove for people who weigh their gear. At 51 g it is lighter than almost anything else in a pack that does real work, and it still produces 2,200 W – enough to boil water for coffee and cook a proper meal, not just warm something through.

The design is stripped to essentials. Three arms fold out from a central burner to form a triangular pot support, sized to take anything from a small mug to a normal camping pot. The whole assembly screws directly onto the top of a standard threaded gas canister, so there is no hose, no pump and nothing to go wrong. An adjustable valve gives control from a hard boil down to a simmer.

Construction is stainless steel, aluminium and copper. That matters at this weight, because the temptation in an ultralight stove is to use materials that soften or distort near the burner. These do not, and the copper in particular helps carry heat away from the valve so the fitting stays sound.

Folded it measures 6.6 x 9.5 cm and comes with its own storage box, small enough to sit inside a camping pot along with a lighter and a small canister. For Kilimanjaro, Meru or a long Udzungwa trek, this is the stove that gets carried because carrying it costs nothing. The gas canister is separate and we stock the threaded canisters it fits.

Good to know

Which gas canister does it fit?

A standard screw-thread camping canister. We stock these in Dar es Salaam. It does not fit a long butane cassette can or a domestic LPG cylinder.

Does it have its own igniter?

No, and that is part of why it weighs 51 g. Carry a lighter or matches. In practice most trekkers carry a lighter anyway.

Is it stable enough for a real pot?

For a mug, a small pot or a kettle, yes. It is a small stove and it sits on top of the canister, so a large or heavy pot is asking too much of it - use a wider stove for group cooking.

Will it work in the cold at altitude?

It works, but like all canister-top stoves it depends on canister pressure. On a cold Kilimanjaro morning keep the canister in your sleeping bag overnight and it will perform far better.

How does it compare with the 230 g stove you sell?

The 230 g model is more powerful, more stable and has built-in ignition. This one exists purely to save weight. Choose this if you count grams, the other if you cook properly.

Can I simmer on it?

Yes, the valve turns down far enough for a low flame, though a small burner concentrates heat in one spot so stirring matters more than it would on a wider stove.

What size pot fits the arms?

The three arms take anything from a small mug up to a standard 1 to 1.5 litre camping pot. Wider pans will overhang and are better on a larger stove.
