About this product

This is the large size of Naturehike’s Little Monster, and it is a different proposition from the smaller two: 2,800 lumens, a 250-metre beam and a 5,000 mAh 26650 cell that runs it for anywhere between 3 and 20 hours depending on the level.

The body is short and wide at 61 x 61 x 134 mm, which makes it stable standing on a table and comfortable to hold across the palm rather than along it. The base is magnetic. Charging is over USB and takes around eight hours from flat, which is the price of a cell that size.

Good to know

How does it compare with the small and medium sizes?

Small is 600 lumens and 70 m; medium is 1,000 lumens and 80 m; this large size is 2,800 lumens and 250 m on a 5,000 mAh cell. The large is for lighting an area, not for carrying in a pocket.

Why does it take eight hours to charge?

Because the cell is 5,000 mAh. A higher-current USB charger helps; a small 1 amp phone plug will be slow.

Is it waterproof?

It is IP44 rated, which covers rain and splashes. It is not a dive light and should not be submerged or left out in a downpour.

How do I charge it?

Over USB. Any phone charger, power bank or USB solar panel will do it, which is what makes it useful during an outage.

Why does it have a magnet?

So it sticks to a vehicle body, a steel beam or a tool box and points where you need it while both your hands are busy. It is the feature owners use most.

Will the battery survive Dar heat?

Lithium cells age faster in heat, so keep it out of a parked car in the sun and do not store it flat. Charge it every couple of months if it is sitting unused.

What is the runtime in practice?

The maximum figure is the lowest setting. On high, expect a fraction of it, as with every rechargeable light. Use the lower levels for anything that is not searching.

Can I use it for game viewing?

Use a low setting and keep the beam off animals' faces. Bright white light in an animal's eyes is unkind and most reserves have rules about it.
