Product description

About this product

The MT2A Pro solves the problem every rechargeable light has: what happens when it is flat and there is no power. It ships with a NITECORE NL1416R 14100 cell that has its own USB-C port, and it also runs on two ordinary AA batteries. That makes it the light to keep in a drawer, a glovebox or a handbag.

Output is 1,000 lumens from a single UHi 20 LED, with a 255-metre throw and 16,500 candela. A single tail switch runs three brightness levels. The body is aero-grade aluminium, hard anodised, sealed to IP68, with a two-way clip and tail-stand capability so it can point at a ceiling and light a whole room.

Questions

Good to know

Does it hit 1,000 lumens on AA batteries?

No. Alkaline AAs cannot deliver the current the Li-ion cell can, so output and runtime both drop. AA is the fallback that keeps the light working, not the way to run it every day.

Which AA batteries are best in it?

Good alkalines are fine for occasional use. Lithium AAs last far longer and do not leak, which matters in a light that sits in a glovebox in this climate. Avoid cheap zinc-carbon cells entirely.

How do I charge the supplied cell?

The NL1416R has a USB-C port in the battery itself, so you charge the cell rather than the light. That also means you can carry a charged spare and swap in seconds.

Is it bright enough to be useful at 40 g?

1,000 lumens and 255 metres from something this size is genuinely surprising. The trade is runtime on high, not brightness.

Will it survive being carried loose in a bag?

It is hard anodised aluminium, IP68 sealed and drop rated to a metre. The clip is the part to watch; use the lanyard if the clip is off.

What should I keep in the car?

This light and a pair of lithium AAs in the glovebox. A rechargeable-only torch in a car in Dar will be flat the day you need it, because heat drains cells faster than you expect.

Can it stand on its end?

Yes, the tail is flat. Pointed at a white ceiling it lights a room well enough to work by.

Can I fly with the battery?

Spare lithium cells and power banks must travel in your cabin bag and are not allowed in checked luggage - that is a firm rule on every airline out of Julius Nyerere, not a preference. Protect the terminals so nothing can short against keys or coins: keep the cell in its case, in the original packaging, or tape the contacts. A cell installed in the light itself may go either way, though the cabin is still the safer choice. Capacity limits only bite above 100 Wh, and a 21700 or 18650 cell is nowhere near that - roughly 13 to 18 Wh - so no airline approval is needed.
