Highlights

135 g of carbon fibre, and it still takes your weight

Pure carbon rather than a carbon-aluminium mix - lighter in the hand and noticeably better at damping the shock that travels up a pole on hard ground.

From 135 g per pole

Light enough that you stop noticing it between sections, which is the difference between poles you use and poles strapped to your pack.

Pure carbon fibre shaft

Absorbs trail vibration far better than aluminium, so hours of hard descent do not leave your hands and elbows ringing.

Moisture-wicking EVA handle

Stays grippy when your hands sweat, which on a humid Tanzanian trail is most of the time.

Tips for every surface

A tungsten carbide tip for rock and trail, a rubber cap for tarmac and hard ground, and a basket for soft ground - all included.

About this product

Ultralight Telescopic Trekking Pole – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

Trekking poles earn their place on descents. Coming down from Kibo or off Meru, a pair of poles takes a substantial share of the load off your knees, and on loose ground they turn a slip into a stumble. The ST10 is Naturehike’s ultralight answer: a pure carbon fibre telescopic pole starting at 135 g, among the lightest they make.

Pure carbon rather than a carbon-aluminium hybrid is the significant choice. Carbon is lighter for the same strength, and it damps vibration in a way aluminium does not – after several hours of planting a pole onto rock, that difference is something you feel in your hands and elbows. The trade-off is honest: for heavy alpine abuse, a hybrid shaft is tougher. For hiking, fastpacking and trail running, this is the better tool.

The handle is moisture-wicking EVA, which matters more in Tanzania than in a cold climate – a slick handle in humid heat is the commonest complaint about cheap poles. The wrist strap is knitted nylon and adjusts to take weight through the strap rather than your grip, which is how poles are meant to be used. A tungsten carbide tip handles rock and packed trail, a rubber cap goes on for tarmac and hard surfaces, and a basket is included for soft or sandy ground.

It comes in three length ranges – 51 to 110 cm, 54 to 120 cm and 57 to 130 cm – in red or dodger blue. Message us before ordering and we will tell you which lengths and colours are on the shelf in Dar es Salaam.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need one pole or two?

Most hikers use a pair - two poles share the load evenly and give far better balance on descents than one. A single pole still helps on gentle ground or if you only want one hand occupied. Message us and we will confirm what the listed price covers and the price for a pair.

Which length should I choose?

As a guide, your forearm should be level with the ground when the pole is planted beside you. The 54 to 120 cm size suits most adults; taller hikers are better on the 57 to 130 cm. Tell us your height and we will advise.

Is carbon fibre strong enough for Kilimanjaro?

Yes, for hiking use. Pure carbon is light and absorbs shock well. Where it is less suited is heavy alpine work with the pole wedged and levered - for that, a carbon-aluminium hybrid is tougher.

What is the rubber cap for?

Hard surfaces - tarmac, rock slabs, lodge floors. It protects the carbide tip, stops the clicking noise, and gives better grip on smooth ground. Take it off for trail and loose surfaces.

Do I need the basket?

On soft ground, sand or mud, yes - it stops the tip sinking in. On dry trail and rock you can leave it off. Both are included so you can decide on the day.

How should I use the wrist strap?

Come up through the loop from underneath and let your hand rest on top of the strap, so your weight goes through the strap rather than being gripped. It is the single change that makes poles far less tiring.

Will it fit inside or on a pack?

Collapsed it goes down to roughly half its extended length, which fits most pack side pockets or straps to the outside. For the most compact packing, the ST08 Z-fold model folds to about 36 cm.

Which colour will I receive?

It is made in red and dodger blue. Stock rotates, so message us and we will tell you which is available in the Dar es Salaam showroom.

Do you deliver upcountry?

Yes, we ship across Tanzania including Arusha and Moshi, which is where most people heading for Kilimanjaro want them sent.
