The blank is carbon with Noeby’s TORSEN graphite cloth laid at 45 degrees and an X-wrap outer layer – the combination that gives a light blank torsional stiffness, so it does not twist under a side load when a fish runs across you. The joints use their carbon-woven ferrule construction, which is what stops a five-piece rod feeling like five short rods bolted together.
Components are Fuji from end to end: an Alconite MN top guide, a Fuji O-ring KW-frame guide train (8+1), and a Fuji DPS reel seat with a lock nut. The grip is Noeby’s 70-degree EVA. Rated to 80 g of lure, PE 3 and 10 kg of drag, at 290 g and 2.90 m.
Off Dar es Salaam this is the rod for the rock ledges at Msasani and Kigamboni and the reef edges you can reach at low water – kingfish, queenfish, barracuda, trevally and bonito all take a fast-worked metal jig here.
