The bib on a diving minnow does two jobs at once: it sets the depth, and it sets how fast the lure can be pulled before the action breaks down. Narrow bibs give you depth but blow out when you troll hard. The NBL9242 has a deliberately wide bib, and Noeby own description of it is straightforward – it handles extraordinary trolling speeds while the broad body keeps the lure tracking with a tight swimming action.
At 125 mm and 19 g it is a mid-size minnow: big enough for kingfish, barracuda and small tuna, small enough to cast on ordinary inshore tackle. It floats at rest, which matters when you are working it near reef – stop winding and it backs up and off the structure instead of hanging. The working depth is around 2.8 m.
The body is ABS with 3D high-simulation eyes, and the lure carries three treble hooks rather than the usual two, which puts an extra set of points under the belly.
Around Dar es Salaam it is at home trolled along the reef edge, cast over shallow coral on a rising tide, or worked through a channel mouth. Kingfish, queenfish, barracuda, small trevally and bonito all take a minnow of this size.
