Highlights

Long fall, not fast jig

The long-fall style is a slow, wide glide on the drop rather than a fast lift. In deep water with current running, that glide is what keeps the jig in front of a fish long enough to be eaten.

160 g to 440 g

Five weights, so you can keep the jig near vertical in real depth and real tide.

Long-fall action

A slow, wide, jerking glide on the drop - the technique that works on deep structure fish.

Luminous finishes

Eight glow colour codes, NJ008 to NJ019, for depth and low light.

110 to 158 mm

A long, slim profile that falls with a sideways slide rather than straight down.

Product description

About this product

Long-fall jigging sits between speed jigging and slow pitch. You lift the jig with a long sweep of the rod and then let it glide back down on a controlled slack line, and the jig slides sideways as it falls rather than dropping like a stone. In deep water with current, that long glide is what keeps the lure in the fish window long enough to be taken – a jig that falls straight down passes a fish in a second.

Noeby build the 1012N in five weights, 160, 190, 220, 330 and 440 g, at lengths from 110 mm to 158 mm. That spread matters because the right weight is whatever keeps your line close to vertical: too light and the current sweeps the jig away from the structure, too heavy and it drops through the zone.

The finishes are luminous, in eight colour codes from NJ008 to NJ019. Glow matters at depth, where almost no daylight reaches – charge the jig with a torch before you drop it and it stays visible on the way down.

One correction worth making. This lure has been sold to us as a casting and trolling lure. Noeby classify it as a sinking long-fall jigging jig, and that is what it is. Do not troll it – it is a lure to drop vertically and work back up.

Questions

Good to know

Is this a casting and trolling lure?

No, despite how it has been labelled. Noeby classify the 1012N as a sinking long-fall jigging jig. It is designed to be dropped vertically and worked back up, not trolled behind a boat.

What is long-fall jigging?

A long sweep of the rod to lift the jig, then a controlled drop on slack line so the jig glides sideways as it falls. It sits between fast speed jigging and slow pitch, and it is very effective on deep structure fish.

Which weight should I use?

Whatever keeps your line close to vertical. In 60-80 m with moderate current that is usually 160-220 g; in deeper water or a hard-running tide, 330 or 440 g. If your line is streaming away at an angle, go heavier.

Does the luminous finish actually help?

At depth, yes. Below about 40 m there is very little daylight left, and a glow finish gives the fish something to track. Charge it with a torch for a few seconds before you drop.

Are assist hooks included?

Noeby do not publish the hook or assist-hook specification for this jig. Tell us what is in the shop matters to you and we will check before you order - we also stock assist hooks and rings separately.

What will take it around Dar es Salaam?

Amberjack, grouper, snapper, jobfish, kingfish and dogtooth tuna on the offshore drop-offs and pinnacles, the Mafia channel and the deeper reef edges.

What rod and reel do I need?

A jigging rod rated for the weight - our CRONY Amazing or Noeby Voyager blanks - with an overhead jigging reel or a strong 6000-8000 spinning reel and PE 3-4 braid.

How do I look after it?

Rinse in fresh water after every trip and dry the lure, hooks especially, before it goes back in the box. Salt left on trebles rusts them within days here, and a blunt point does not set.
