Highlights

Two hooks, two kinds of flash

An assist hook with flash at the head and a rear single on a swivelling spoon. The spoon spins as the jig moves, throwing light from angles a flat jig never reaches.

21, 28 and 40 g

Light enough to cast on ordinary tackle, heavy enough to get down in a current.

Rear swivel spoon

A small spoon on the rear hook spins as the jig moves, reflecting light from more angles.

Flashed assist hook

A sharp assist hook at the head, dressed with flash.

Streamlined for distance

A slim profile built to cast a long way off a beach or rocks.

Product description

About this product

Blade jigs sit between a metal jig and a spinner. They are dense, so they cast a long way and sink fast, and they have enough body to be worked with a jigging action rather than just wound in. The NBL1008N adds a detail most do not have: a small spoon on a swivel at the rear hook, which spins as the jig moves and throws flash from angles the flat body cannot reach.

At the head is a sharp assist hook dressed with flash, so the lure has two hook points on separate parts of the body – useful when fish are hitting short, which they often do on a fast retrieve.

Three weights are made, 21 g, 28 g and 40 g, in eight colours – 301 through 308, with 301 luminous. Those weights are light enough for an ordinary 3000 to 4000 spinning outfit, which makes this a shore and jetty lure as much as a boat one.

Off Dar es Salaam it suits casting off the rocks and beaches, working a channel mouth, and light vertical jigging from a boat – queenfish, barracuda, small kingfish, bonito, trevally and snapper. Inland it is a good tigerfish lure.

Questions

Good to know

How do I fish a blade jig?

Two ways. Cast it and wind it back with occasional sharp lifts, or drop it and work it vertically with short jigging strokes. Both work; the flash is doing most of the job either way.

Which weight should I choose?

21 g for light tackle and calm conditions, 28 g as the all-rounder, 40 g when you need distance into wind or depth in a current. All three throw on a 3000-4000 spinning outfit.

What is the rear spoon for?

It spins on a swivel as the jig moves, reflecting light from angles the flat body cannot. It also stops the rear hook from twisting your line, which a bare single hook on a fast retrieve will do.

What will take it around Dar es Salaam?

Queenfish, barracuda, small kingfish, bonito, trevally and snapper, cast from the rocks, beaches and jetties or worked vertically from a boat. Inland it is a good tigerfish lure.

Why is the length marked as a supplier figure?

Because Noeby do not publish a length for the 1008N at all. Our supplier gives 55, 60 and 66 mm for the three weights. We have marked it rather than presenting it as manufacturer data.

Does the luminous colour help?

In low light, at dawn and dusk, and in murky water, yes. Charge it with a torch for a few seconds first. In bright sun over clear water, a reflective finish does more.

What line should I use?

Braid with a fluorocarbon leader for casting distance and feel. For barracuda, add a short wire trace - they will cut straight through fluorocarbon.

How do I look after it?

Rinse in fresh water after every trip and dry it before it goes back in the box, hooks especially. Salt left on hooks rusts them within days here, and a blunt point does not set.
