About this product

A pop-up lantern that is two lights in one body. Collapsed, the LED in the end works as a torch. Pull the two halves apart and a frosted column slides out, turning it into a 360 degree lantern that lights a whole tent.

It is battery powered, which is exactly right for a light like this – it sits in a boot or an emergency box for months and still works. A sprung carabiner on top clips it to a pack, a tent loop or a branch, and the collapsed body is small enough to disappear into a glovebox.

Each lantern measures 13 x 8.5 cm collapsed.

Sold as a pair, so you can leave one in the car and one in the camping box – or light two ends of a tent at once.

Good to know

How does it switch between torch and lantern?

Mechanically. Pulling the body open slides a frosted column out over the LED, scattering the light all round; pushing it closed leaves the LED exposed as a forward beam. There is no separate mode button for it.

Are batteries included?

No. Buy a set with them if you want it ready to use out of the box.

Why two?

They are sold as a pair. In practice most people keep one in the vehicle and one with the camping kit, which means there is always a working light within reach.

Is it bright?

It is an emergency and tent light rather than a campsite light. Bright enough to move around, find gear and read by; not a floodlight.

Is it waterproof?

Treat it as splash resistant only. It is not designed to be rained on.

Will it survive being dropped?

The plastic body is light and flexes rather than shattering, which is part of why these end up in glove boxes and emergency kits.
