About this product
A training snorkel is not diving equipment. It is a stroke-correction tool, and it works by removing one variable: breathing. Turning the head to breathe is where most freestyle faults show up – the head lifts, the hips sink, the lead arm crosses the centre line, the kick stops for a beat. Take the breath away and everything else is easier to feel and easier to fix.
This one is centre-mount, meaning the tube runs up the middle of the forehead rather than beside the ear. That position keeps the load balanced on the head at speed; a side-mounted snorkel drags the head slightly off line, which is the exact fault you were trying to correct. The bracket wraps the forehead with a single adjustable strap.
A one-way purge valve at the base is the difference between a usable snorkel and a frustrating one. Water always gets in – from a splash, from a turn, from a wave in open water. The valve lets it drain downwards instead of sitting in the tube, so a mouthful of water does not follow the next breath. Clear it with one sharp exhale.
The mouthpiece is food-grade silicone with soft bite pads. That matters over a long set: a hard mouthpiece is clamped by the jaw for forty minutes and the ache afterwards lasts longer than the session. Use it for drill sets, for body-position work and for building a feel for a genuinely flat head position – then take it off and swim the same set breathing, and see whether the change held.
