Why this page is different

We would rather tell you what we are still checking.

Weight being confirmed

Published Ghoul weights are 16 g and 23 g. We are checking what 21 g refers to.

Tungsten-look is a finish

Not an alloy. No Ghoul is a tungsten dart, whatever a listing says.

Possible duplicate listing

The 23 g Ghoul shares a code with our Jet-Aircraft set. We are checking.

Tell us your weight and board type and we will point you at a fully specified set.

Product description

About this product

Ghoul is a genuine WIN.MAX model name, but we want to flag something before you order.

The Ghoul weights WIN.MAX publish are 16 g in soft tip and 23 g in steel tip. We have not been able to find a 21 g Ghoul in any WIN.MAX listing, and the 23 g Ghoul shares a product code with WIN.MAX’s Jet-Aircraft set – which raises the possibility that this and our Jet-Aircraft listing are the same physical dart under two names.

We are confirming the actual weight and code with the supplier. Rather than publish a specification we cannot stand behind, we would rather you messaged us and we told you exactly what is in the box.

One thing worth knowing whichever version arrives: WIN.MAX’s original Ghoul was sold as a tungsten-look dart. Tungsten-look is a finish, not an alloy. We will not describe any Ghoul as a tungsten set, and neither should anyone else.

If you want a confirmed 90 percent tungsten barrel, or a steel tip set whose weight we can state with certainty, ask us – we have both.

Questions

Good to know

Why does this page say the weight is being confirmed?

Because the Ghoul weights WIN.MAX publish are 16 g soft tip and 23 g steel tip, and we have not been able to verify a 21 g version. Rather than print a figure we cannot evidence, we are checking with the supplier. Message us and we will tell you what is actually in stock.

Is a Ghoul a tungsten dart?

No. WIN.MAX's original Ghoul was described as tungsten-look, which is a finish rather than an alloy. Anyone selling a Ghoul as a tungsten set is misdescribing it. If you want confirmed tungsten, ask us about the 90 percent barrels we stock.

What should I buy instead if I need a set today?

Tell us your preferred weight and whether your board is bristle or electronic, and we will point you at something whose specification we can state fully. That is a two-minute conversation.

Steel tip or soft tip - which do I need?

Steel tip darts have a metal point and go into a sisal bristle board. Soft tip darts have a flexible plastic point and go into an electronic board. Never throw steel tips at an electronic board: the point punches through the plastic segments and can wreck the sensors underneath, and that is not repairable. Soft tips on a bristle board simply bounce out.

What does the tungsten percentage mean?

It is the proportion of tungsten by weight in the barrel alloy - the rest is a binder such as nickel, because pure tungsten is too brittle to machine. Tungsten is more than twice as dense as brass, so a higher percentage means a physically slimmer barrel at the same weight. Slimmer barrels take up less room in a treble bed, which is what lets three darts group in one segment.

What is 2BA, and will these parts fit my darts?

2BA is the standard dart thread - 4.7 mm major diameter - and virtually every modern barrel, shaft and point uses it. The older alternative is a 1/4 inch thread, noticeably fatter and coarser, found on some cheap brass and house darts. They are not interchangeable and forcing one into the other strips the thread. Flights are not threaded at all, so any standard-shape flight fits any standard-shape shaft.

How should I sharpen a steel tip?

You are conditioning the point, not making it pointy. Roll the tip on the stone at a shallow angle, turning the dart as you go, until the burrs and flat spots from hitting wires are gone - ten or fifteen seconds is plenty. Leave it smooth and slightly rounded. A needle point is worse in every way: it skids off wires and bounces out, and it cuts sisal fibres instead of parting them, which puts permanent holes in the board.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?
