About this product

The one to hand somebody who needs a light that just works. A 3 W LED behind a frosted diffuser gives around 300 lumens on high and 150 on low, with a warm light setting and an SOS strobe as well, and an 1800 mAh rechargeable battery behind it charging over USB.

Three details lift it above the usual cheap lantern. It is IP65 rated, so it genuinely handles rain rather than just surviving a splash. There is a magnet in the top as well as the carabiner handle, so it sticks to the underside of a bonnet or a steel shelf and lights downward with both your hands free. And there is a USB output, so the 1800 mAh cell will put charge back into a phone.

The body is 60 mm across and 70 mm tall – genuinely pocket sized – and the sprung carabiner folds flat and clips to a pack, a tent loop or a branch.

At this price it is the light to keep in the car, the kitchen drawer and the camping box, and to buy two or three of rather than one.

Good to know

How long does it run?

A full 1800 mAh charge gives several hours on high and considerably longer on low. Low is the setting most people leave it on inside a tent.

How strong is the magnet?

Strong enough to hold the lantern on a vertical steel surface such as a car door or a toolbox lid. It will not hold on aluminium or plastic.

Can it really charge a phone?

It will add a useful amount in an emergency - 1800 mAh is roughly a third to half of a typical phone battery. It is a get-you-out-of-trouble feature, not a substitute for a proper power bank.

Is it waterproof?

It is IP65 rated, so rain and hosing down are fine. Do not submerge it.

How do I get the SOS mode?

Hold the switch for about three seconds. It is much more visible at distance than a steady light, so it is worth knowing it is there if you break down at night. The warm light setting is on the same switch cycle and is the nicer one to leave on inside a tent.

Is it bright enough for a tent?

Yes, comfortably. Around 300 lumens lights a two to four person tent well, and the frosted diffuser spreads it so you are not staring at a point source.
