Highlights

One bow, either hand

Most bows are handed - a right-handed bow is awkward and inaccurate in left hands. This one has an arrow rest cut on both sides, which is why it suits a family, a school or a camp where whoever picks it up next might shoot the other way round.

Arrow rest both sides

Left- and right-handed archers shoot the same bow without swapping anything.

Very light

Epoxy resin and nylon fibre rather than wood and aluminium, so a child can hold it out steadily.

One piece

Nothing to bolt together or lose, which is what you want for a camp or a school set.

Recreational draw weights

Light enough for games and first lessons rather than serious target work.

Product description

About this product

Lightweight Recreational Recurve Bow – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

This is a simple one-piece recreational recurve moulded from epoxy resin and nylon fibre, with an arrow rest on both sides of the riser so it can be shot left- or right-handed.

The ambidextrous cut is the useful part. Handedness in archery is decided by your dominant eye rather than your writing hand, and about a third of people turn out to shoot the opposite way to the one they expected. For a family, a school, a camp or a lodge activity, a bow anyone can pick up removes that problem entirely.

It is genuinely light, which is what makes it work for children. Holding a bow out at arm-s length while aiming is harder than it sounds, and a tired arm wanders. A light bow lets a young archer take enough shots in a session to actually improve.

Be clear about what it is: a recreational bow for games, backyard practice and first lessons, not a target or hunting bow. It has no sight, no stabiliser and no adjustment. Someone who takes to archery will want a takedown recurve with a proper riser within a season – but this is the right thing to find out on.

Match the arrows to the bow. Light fibreglass practice arrows are what this shoots; heavy carbon hunting arrows are wrong for it and will not fly properly.

Questions

Good to know

Why are the draw weight and bow weight marked supplier figure?

Because a 0.4 kg bow rated to 40 lb is at the edge of what that construction would normally do, and we have not been able to verify either number against a manufacturer datasheet. We would rather mark them than present them as certain. If the exact draw weight matters to you, ask us and we will check the stock.

Which draw weight should I choose?

For children and first-time shooters, the lightest available. A recurve has no let-off, so you hold the full draw weight the entire time you aim. Nobody learns good form while fighting a bow.

How do I tell if someone is a left- or right-handed archer?

By their dominant eye, not their writing hand. Make a small triangle with both hands at arm-s length, frame a distant object through it, then close one eye at a time - the eye that keeps the object in the triangle is dominant. Shoot on that side. About a third of people are cross-dominant.

Is it suitable for serious archery?

No. It is a recreational bow with no sight, no stabiliser and no adjustment. Anyone who takes to the sport will want a takedown recurve or a compound within a season. This is the bow to find out on.

What arrows should I use with it?

Light fibreglass practice arrows. Heavy carbon hunting arrows are wrong for a light recreational bow - they will not fly properly and they are far more dangerous if one goes astray.

Is it good for a lodge or camp activity?

Yes, and that is where it shines - light, cheap enough to buy several, nothing to assemble, and anyone can shoot it whichever way round they are. Pair it with a foam target and fibreglass arrows.

Young archers and adult supervision

A bow is not a toy at any draw weight, and an arrow will injure someone badly however light the bow. Set a shooting line, one shooter at a time, nobody forward of the line, and a solid backstop behind the target.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
