This is a replacement string for a recurve bow, made from high-strength low-stretch synthetic fibre with reinforced serving at the loops and the nocking point.

Strings are consumable and people forget it. Every shot works the fibres, and the serving – the tightly wrapped thread at the nocking point and where the loops sit on the limb tips – wears fastest because that is where the pressure and friction are. Long before a string breaks it starts to fuzz, and the serving begins to separate. Both are signs to replace it.

Low stretch is the specification that matters day to day. A string that creeps longer under load lowers your brace height, which changes arrow speed and where your arrows land. You end up chasing your sight marks and blaming your form. A stable string simply keeps the bow shooting the same.

Match the string length to your bow. A recurve string is normally about four inches shorter than the bow-s nominal length – a 66-inch bow typically takes a 62-inch string, and the F155 we stock specifies 64 inches. Check what your bow states rather than guessing; a string that is too short raises the brace height dangerously and too long drops it.

Wax it. A block of bowstring wax rubbed along the string and worked in with the fingers keeps the fibres bound and doubles the life of a string. In dusty, humid conditions it matters more, not less.

What length string do I need?

Whatever your bow specifies. A recurve string is usually about 4 in shorter than the bow-s nominal length, so a 66 in bow often takes a 62 in string - but manufacturers vary, and our Junxing F155 specifies 64 in. Tell us your bow and we will match it.

How do I know when to replace a string?

When it fuzzes along its length, when the serving at the nocking point starts to separate or spin, or when your brace height has dropped and will not come back. Replace before it breaks, not after.

What happens if a string breaks while shooting?

On a recurve, the limbs release all their energy with nothing to hold them - it is violent, it can damage the limbs and it can injure you. That is the reason to replace a worn string early rather than getting the last few sessions out of it.

Can I fit it myself?

On a light recurve, yes, with a bow stringer - a simple cord device that bends the limbs safely. Never use the step-through method, which twists the limbs and is how limbs get broken and people get hurt.

Do I need to wax it?

Yes. Bowstring wax keeps the fibres bound together and stops fraying, and it easily doubles a string-s life. Rub a block along the string and work it in with your fingers until it is warm. Do this every few sessions.

Will it fit a compound bow?

No. A compound needs a string and cables cut to that bow-s exact specification and fitted with a bow press. This is a recurve string only.
