Product description

About this product

A brush shaped around one idea: clean three sides of the chain at once. The head is multi-faceted and ergonomically formed so that as you draw it along the chain, bristles work the inner plates, the outer plates and the rollers together instead of one face at a time.

The bristles are long enough to penetrate between the links and rollers, which is where the abrasive paste of dust and old lube actually sits. The longer bristles at the end of the brush are there for the rest of the drivetrain – chainrings, cassette sprockets and jockey wheels.

If you ride here regularly, a chain brush is not an optional extra. Fine dust binds with chain lube into something closer to grinding paste than dirt, and it is that paste – not the riding – that wears a chain and cassette out. Removing it every wash is the cheapest drivetrain maintenance there is.

Use it with a drivetrain cleaner or degreaser rather than water alone: spray, wait about thirty seconds, then work the brush along the chain and rinse.

Questions

Good to know

How is this different from the Claw Brush?

The Claw Brush is shaped to get between cassette sprockets. This one is shaped around the chain itself, cleaning three of its faces in a single pass. Many riders own both.

Do I need a degreaser with it?

Yes. Water alone will not lift the oily paste that forms inside a chain. Spray a drivetrain cleaner or degreaser, let it work for around thirty seconds, then agitate with the brush.

What is the right order to wash a bike?

Rinse the worst off with low pressure, degrease and clean the drivetrain first so its grime does not run over clean paint, then wash the frame and wheels, rinse, dry, and lubricate the chain last. Doing the chain first and the frame second is the single commonest mistake.

How often should I do this?

Whenever the chain looks black rather than metallic. In a Tanzanian dry season that can be weekly if you ride most days; in the rains, after every muddy ride.

Is this the right choice for Tanzanian conditions?

For most of the year around Dar es Salaam you are riding in heat and fine dust, which is dry-lube territory - a dry or wax lube leaves a drier film that dust does not stick to. Switch to a wet lube through the long rains in March to May and the short rains in November and December, when washing off matters more than staying clean.

What do I do with the dirty water?

Do not pour drivetrain runoff into a storm drain. Degreaser and old chain lube carry heavy metal particles from the chain. Let the solids settle in a bucket, dispose of the residue with solid waste, and pour the rest onto ground rather than into a drain.

Why does drying the bike matter so much here?

Because of the salt and the humidity. Water left standing in bolt heads, on the chain and around the cassette starts corrosion quickly on the coast. Dry the bike, then lubricate - ten minutes that adds years to a drivetrain.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and send nationwide to Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond by courier. Call or WhatsApp us if you need a same-day drop in the city.
