Highlights

Ninety seconds that saves a set of pads

Every spray drifts. A covered rotor does not care.

Stops the overspray problem

A misted rotor loses braking power and a contaminated pad usually gets binned.

On and off in seconds

A patented design, because a fiddly cover is a cover nobody uses.

Cleaning and transit

Fine in a bike bag or inside a vehicle.

Not on an external car rack

Muc-Off say so explicitly - at road speed a cover can work loose.

Product description

About this product

Two covers that clip over your disc rotors while you clean or transport the bike. A small thing that prevents an expensive and genuinely annoying problem.

The problem is overspray. Every protectant, polish and lube you apply to a bike drifts, and a rotor that catches a fine mist of oil loses braking power immediately. A contaminated pad usually cannot be cleaned back to full performance and ends up being replaced. Covering the rotors for the ninety seconds it takes to spray the bike removes the risk entirely.

Muc-Off use a patented design that goes on and off fast – if a cover is fiddly, nobody uses it. This is the camo colourway, for mountain bike rotors.

One instruction from Muc-Off that is easy to miss and worth repeating: do not use them when transporting the bike on the outside of a vehicle. At road speed a cover can work loose, and a cover in a moving rotor is the wrong kind of problem. They are for cleaning and for transport inside a vehicle or a bike bag.

Questions

Good to know

Why do I need to cover the rotors?

Because any spray you apply to the bike drifts. A rotor that catches an oil mist loses braking power, and a contaminated pad usually has to be replaced rather than cleaned. Ninety seconds of covering avoids it.

Can I leave them on while the bike is on a car rack?

No. Muc-Off state explicitly not to use them when transporting a bike on the outside of a vehicle - at road speed a cover can work loose. They are for cleaning, and for transport inside a vehicle or a bag.

Do they fit my rotors?

These are the MTB version and suit standard mountain bike rotor sizes. Muc-Off make a separate road and gravel version for the smaller rotors used there.

What if I have already contaminated a rotor?

Clean the rotor with a dedicated disc brake cleaner and inspect the pads. If the pads are contaminated through, they usually need replacing - and bedding the new pads in properly is what restores full power.

Will it harm my disc brakes?

Keep any oil, lube or polish off the rotors and pads. If a lube or spray reaches a rotor the brake will squeal and lose power, and a contaminated pad usually has to be replaced. Cover or shield the rotors when you spray, and wipe rotors with a dedicated disc brake cleaner if anything lands on them.

Is this the right choice for Tanzanian conditions?

For most of the year around Dar es Salaam you are riding in heat and fine dust, which is dry-lube territory - a dry or wax lube leaves a drier film that dust does not stick to. Switch to a wet lube through the long rains in March to May and the short rains in November and December, when washing off matters more than staying clean.

How should I store it in this climate?

Keep it out of direct sun and away from a hot car boot. Aerosols and solvent-based products do not enjoy sitting at 40 degrees C, and a cupboard indoors is fine. Close the cap properly - humidity on the coast gets into anything left open.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and send nationwide to Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond by courier. Call or WhatsApp us if you need a same-day drop in the city.
