About this product

The full set – all five Muc-Off brushes in a storage bag. This is what a workshop uses, and what a rider who washes a bike weekly ends up wanting.

Soft Washing Brush: sintered bristles on an oversized head for covering frames and large areas quickly without marking the finish. Detailing Brush: durable nylon for sprockets, hubs, suspension mounts and fork crowns. Claw Brush: three angled heads with an integral mud scraper, rated 10-speed compatible, for the chain and cassette.

The two the three-brush set does not include are the ones you miss. The Wheel and Component Brush is contoured to follow a rim and pass between spokes, with a dual-density impact-resistant handle – cleaning a wheel properly without it is slow work. The Two Prong Brush has twin repositionable heads for spokes, discs, shocks, cranks, linkages and pedals, and reaches into places nothing else does.

Everything stores in the supplied bag, which matters if the bike lives on a balcony or in a compound rather than a workshop. Avoid boiling water and hot components.

What are the five brushes?

Is it worth the step up from the three-brush set?

If you clean wheels properly, yes. The Wheel and Component Brush and Two Prong Brush are the two that reach places the other three cannot, and wheels are where Tanzanian dust collects most.

What is the right order to wash a bike?

Rinse the worst off with low pressure, degrease and clean the drivetrain first so its grime does not run over clean paint, then wash the frame and wheels, rinse, dry, and lubricate the chain last. Doing the chain first and the frame second is the single commonest mistake.

Can I use a pressure washer?

Only on a low setting and never aimed at a hub, bottom bracket, headset or suspension seal - high pressure drives water and grit straight past the seals and into the bearings. A bucket, a brush and a hose do a better job with none of the risk.

Is it safe on carbon and paintwork?

Muc-Off formulate their bike cleaners to be safe on carbon fibre, anodised metal, decals and paint, and free of acids and solvents. Rinse it off rather than letting it dry on the surface in direct sun.

How do I look after them?

Rinse thoroughly after each use so degreaser and grit do not set in the bristles, and keep them away from boiling water and hot components. Store them in the supplied bag rather than loose in a bucket.

Does the heat here change how I should use it?

Yes. Wash in shade or early morning. In full Dar sun a cleaner dries on the frame before you can rinse it, which leaves streaks and stops it working. Keep the surface wet while the product does its job.
