About this product

Three brushes that cover a whole bike between them: the Soft Washing Brush, the Detailing Brush and the Claw Brush.

The Soft Washing Brush is the frame brush – an oversized head on a sintered bristle compound, designed to move dirt off large areas fast without marking a delicate finish. The handle is impact-resistant with rubberised zones, so dropping it against a chainstay does no harm.

The Detailing Brush handles the awkward bits: sprockets, hubs, suspension mounts, fork crowns – anywhere dirt sits in a corner and refuses to move. Durable nylon bristles, rubberised impact zones.

The Claw Brush is the drivetrain tool. Three angled heads and an integral mud scraper, shaped to reach between cassette sprockets and along the chain.

That split matters more here than it does elsewhere. Using one brush for both a greasy cassette and a painted frame just transfers drivetrain grime onto the paint – a dedicated soft brush and a dedicated drivetrain brush is what keeps a bike looking right through a dusty season. Avoid boiling water and hot components.

What are the three brushes?

Why not use one brush for everything?

Because a brush used on a greasy cassette carries that grime onto your paint next time. Keeping the soft frame brush away from the drivetrain is the whole point of having more than one.

What is the right order to wash a bike?

Rinse the worst off with low pressure, degrease and clean the drivetrain first so its grime does not run over clean paint, then wash the frame and wheels, rinse, dry, and lubricate the chain last. Doing the chain first and the frame second is the single commonest mistake.

Can I use a pressure washer?

Only on a low setting and never aimed at a hub, bottom bracket, headset or suspension seal - high pressure drives water and grit straight past the seals and into the bearings. A bucket, a brush and a hose do a better job with none of the risk.

Is it safe on carbon and paintwork?

Muc-Off formulate their bike cleaners to be safe on carbon fibre, anodised metal, decals and paint, and free of acids and solvents. Rinse it off rather than letting it dry on the surface in direct sun.

How do I look after them?

Rinse thoroughly after every use so degreaser and grit do not set in the bristles. Avoid boiling water and hot components - heat permanently distorts the bristles.

Does the heat here change how I should use it?

Yes. Wash in shade or early morning. In full Dar sun a cleaner dries on the frame before you can rinse it, which leaves streaks and stops it working. Keep the surface wet while the product does its job.
