Product description

About this product

A dive light is a different object from a bright torch. It has to seal against pressure, it has to be usable in gloves, and it has to put a tight beam through water that scatters everything. The DL30 does all three: IP68 to 100 metres, 1,100 lumens through a smooth reflector for 155,420 cd of peak intensity, and a 788-metre throw measured in air.

Four brightness levels cycle with the switch and five flashing frequencies are available for signalling. A circular power indicator shows what is left in the cell. The body is aero-grade aluminium with a HA III hard-anodised finish and a tempered glass lens coated on both faces.

Power comes from a NITECORE NL2153R 21700 rechargeable cell of 5,300 mAh, which has its own USB-C port built into the battery. A diffuser and lanyard are supplied.

Questions

Good to know

Can I take it to 100 metres?

The light is rated to it. Whether you should be there is a question for your training and your dive plan, not your torch. For recreational depths off Mafia or Mnemba it is far beyond what you will ask of it.

How do I stop it flooding?

The O-rings are the whole story. Check them before every dive, keep them free of sand and hair, and put a thin smear of silicone grease on them. Never open the light with wet hands over an open compartment.

What do I do after a dive?

Rinse it in fresh water with the light closed, work the switch a few times under the rinse, then dry it. Salt left to dry in the switch and threads is what kills dive lights.

Why does it only run 6 hours?

Because 1,100 lumens through a tight reflector draws real current. Six hours is the maximum on the lowest level; on high, plan in tens of minutes and carry a spare cell for a second dive.

Can I use it as a normal torch?

Yes, and it is a good one: 788 metres of throw on land. It is heavier than a land torch because it is built to seal, which is the trade.

Can I fly with the battery?

The NL2153R is about 19 Wh, so it travels in cabin baggage with terminals protected, never in the hold. Airlines usually allow two spares. Check with yours.

Does the battery need a separate charger?

No. The NL2153R has a USB-C port in the cell itself, so any USB-C cable charges it. A Nitecore charger is still useful if you carry several cells.
