Product description

About this product

The MH40 Pro is a searchlight in a torch body. A UHi 40 MAX LED, a smooth reflector and Nitecore’s PDOT optics produce 423,000 candela, which puts a usable beam 1,300 metres out. Output peaks at 3,500 lumens.

Power comes from an NBP100R rechargeable pack of 10,000 mAh, roughly two 21700 cells worth, with a USB-C port built in; the light also accepts two 21700 cells directly. A low-power vibration alert tells you when the pack is getting close to empty, which is more useful in the dark than a small indicator. A tactical tail switch and a mode button run four brightness levels and three special modes.

Questions

Good to know

Is the throw really 1,300 metres?

That is Nitecore's figure, measured the standard way: the distance at which the beam still delivers 0.25 lux, about the light of a full moon. In practice you will identify a vehicle or a large animal well short of that, and see the beam land far beyond it.

What does the vibration alert do?

It buzzes when the pack is running low. In the dark, on a patrol, that is far more useful than a small coloured LED you have to look for.

Can I use ordinary 21700 cells instead of the pack?

Yes, two of them. The pack is the better option for runtime and for charging convenience, but the flexibility is there if a pack is flat and you have cells.

What is the remote switch for?

Mounting the light on a rifle, a boat rail or a vehicle and operating it without reaching for the body. The kit includes the switch, hook-and-loop straps and Picatinny mounts.

Is it legal to use for hunting here?

Lamping rules vary by district and by species, and a light this powerful draws attention. Check with your professional hunter or the licensing office before using it on game.

How do I care for it on the coast?

Rinse salt off, dry the head and the charging port, keep the threads clean and lightly greased. IP68 protects against water getting in; it does not protect against salt sitting on aluminium for weeks.

How long does the pack take to charge?

Under four hours from flat through its own USB-C port with a decent charger. A 5V/1A phone charger will take considerably longer.
