The K4 is the travel tier of Noeby’s Leisure range, and the specification is honest about where the money went. The blank is IM6-grade carbon; the guides are 7+1 with SiC rings, which is the hard, slick ring material you want with braid; the grip is split EVA; the reel seat and guide hardware are Noeby’s own Webo components rather than Fuji. That is the trade that makes the price what it is, and for a rod in this class it is the right trade.

Rated medium-fast with a PE 1.5 line rating and 4.5 kg of maximum drag, it is a light inshore and freshwater tool. Around Dar es Salaam that means jetties, creek mouths and mangrove edges for queenfish, barracuda, small trevally and snapper; inland it is a very good Nile perch, tigerfish and bass rod for the lakes and dams.

Good to know

Spinning or casting - which should I get?

Spinning (this one) if you fish in wind, throw lures under about 15 g, or want the easier option. Casting (C704) if you already use a baitcaster and want more accuracy with heavier lures. Same blank, same ratings.

Where can I use it around Dar es Salaam?

It is a light rod, so inshore and freshwater: jetties, creeks and mangrove edges for barracuda, queenfish, small trevally and snapper, and the lakes and dams inland for Nile perch, tigerfish and bass. It is not built for offshore or heavy shore work.

What reel size suits it?

A 2500 to 3000 size spinning reel with PE 1 to PE 1.5 braid. That balances a 142 g rod and stays within its 4.5 kg drag rating.

Is 4.5 kg of drag enough?

For the fish this rod is for, yes - that is a substantial amount of pressure on a light outfit. If you expect to hook something that needs more than 4.5 kg to stop, you want a heavier rod, and we stock those.

What does SiC mean and does it matter?

Silicon carbide - the ring inside the guide frame. It is the hardest and slickest common ring material, sheds heat well, and resists the grooving that makes a worn guide cut braided line.

How do I look after a four-piece rod?

Rinse it in fresh water after every session, ferrules included, and dry it before it goes back in the tube. Grit and salt in a joint is what makes sections stick or split. Push the joints together firmly with a slight twist when assembling, and pull them apart straight - never twist them apart.
