Highlights

Light pads get worn

Heavy pads tire you, slow your running and make players reluctant to pad up properly for a net. A genuinely light pad is worn more often and run in more willingly - which protects more than a heavier pad that comes off after twenty minutes.

Ultralight PU facing

Premium PU rather than heavy PVC, which is where the weight saving comes from.

Five sizes

Junior, Youth, Small Adult, Adult and Large Adult, sized by leg measurement.

Stanford size chart

Kneecap centre to shoe instep: Junior up to 36 cm, Youth 36-38, Small Adult 38-40, Adult 40-43, Large Adult 44-48.

Club grade

Built for club and academy cricket rather than the professional game.

Product description

About this product

The SF Clublite is Stanford-s lightweight batting leg guard, faced in premium PU.

Weight matters more on a pad than people expect. You wear them for an hour or more, you run in them, and you have to be able to get down the pitch quickly. Heavy pads tire the legs, slow the running between wickets and – the effect nobody admits – make players reluctant to pad up properly for a net session, which is precisely where most cricket injuries happen. A light pad gets worn and gets run in.

PU facing is where the weight saving comes from. It is lighter than the PVC used on traditional pads and it takes a scuff well, at some cost in outright toughness.

The size chart is worth using properly, and Stanford publish a good one: measure from the centre of the kneecap to the top of the shoe with the leg slightly bent, then read off – up to 36 cm Junior, 36 to 38 Youth, 38 to 40 Small Adult, 40 to 43 Adult, 44 to 48 Large Adult. Five sizes is a genuinely useful spread, and the Large Adult size is one that a lot of ranges omit.

Stanford do not publish the strap count or state hand orientation for this model. Tell us whether the player bats right or left handed and we will check the stock before it ships.

Questions

Good to know

How do I size batting pads?

Measure from the centre of the kneecap down to the top of the shoe with the leg slightly bent, and match that to the size chart. Too long and the pad fouls the instep and trips you running; too short and it leaves the knee exposed.

How light is it?

Stanford do not publish a weight, only the ultralight designation. What is clear is that the PU facing is lighter than the PVC used on traditional pads. If weight is your main criterion, ask us and we will weigh the stock.

Do I need left-hand or right-hand pads?

Usually yes - the side-wing protection sits on the outside of each leg relative to the stance, so the wrong pair leaves the outside of the leg unprotected. Tell us whether you bat right or left handed and we will confirm what the stock is.

PU or PVC facing - what is the difference?

PU is lighter and takes a scuff well; PVC is heavier and tougher against abrasion. For club cricket where the pads are run in a lot, the weight saving is usually worth more than the extra toughness.

Which part wears out first?

The instep, under the foot, which drags on the ground on every run. It is the first thing to check at the start of a season, on any pad.

How should protective equipment fit?

Snug enough that it does not move when you do, loose enough not to restrict you. Pads should let you run; gloves should let you grip without gaps at the fingertips; a helmet should not rock when you shake your head. Kit that moves on impact is protecting the wrong place at the wrong moment.

How do I look after protective gear in this climate?

Take it out of the bag the moment you get home and let it dry in the shade. Padding and straps that stay damp in a closed kit bag grow mould and rot within weeks here - far faster than the equipment wears out from use. This is the single thing that decides how long cricket kit lasts in Tanzania.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
