About this product

Standing on a paddleboard is fine for half an hour on flat water. Paddle into a headwind, take a child along, or go out for a couple of hours, and sitting down is simply easier – which is why almost every modern SUP has deck rings and almost every serious paddler carries a seat.

This is a universal-fit seat rather than one made for a particular board. Four adjustable webbing straps with side-release buckles clip to the D-rings on a paddleboard deck or the fittings on a sit-on-top kayak, and you pull them tight to set the backrest angle you want. Because the fitting is straps rather than a moulded bracket, it also works on a canoe thwart, a small boat bench or a beach chair frame.

The seat base and backrest are padded with multi-layer PU foam and covered in a wipe-clean fabric. The cushion lifts out, which matters here: after a day in the sea a seat that cannot be rinsed and dried goes musty fast. The underside is rubberised with retaining clips so the seat does not slide forward as you paddle.

Note that a seat alone changes how you sit, not how you brace. If you are paddling a board seated for any distance, a footrest against which to push makes far more difference than most people expect – we stock those separately.

Good to know

Will it fit my board or kayak?

It fits any board or kayak with deck rings, D-rings or eyelets to clip the straps to - which covers almost all inflatable SUPs and sit-on-top kayaks, including the Bestway Hydro-Force boards we stock. If your board has a completely bare deck with no fittings, this seat has nothing to attach to. Send us a photo of your deck and we will tell you.

Can I use it on a hard-shell sit-in kayak?

Only if the cockpit has fittings within reach of the straps. Sit-in kayaks usually come with their own moulded seat, so this is aimed at sit-on-top boats and paddleboards.

Does it come with a footrest?

No - the seat is sold on its own. A footrest is a separate item and is worth adding if you plan to paddle seated for any length of time.

Will the fabric survive sea water and sun?

Rinse it in fresh water after sea use and dry it in the shade, and it will last. Left wet and salty in a hot car it will smell and the foam will break down faster. The removable cushion exists precisely so you can dry it properly.

Is it comfortable enough for a few hours?

For recreational paddling, yes - the padded back panel is the part that makes the difference. It is not a whitewater or expedition seat, and it does not have the lumbar adjustment of a fitted kayak seat.

Can a child use it?

Yes. In fact it is often bought so a child can sit on the front of a parent's board. Everyone aboard should still be wearing a buoyancy aid.

How quickly does it come off?

Seconds - release the four buckles and lift it out. The board rolls up as normal with the seat removed.
