Highlights

Grows with the archer

A child who starts at 15 lb will be pulling 30 lb within a year or two. Rather than buying twice, this bow adjusts through the whole range at both the limb bolts and the draw-length module - and it is short and light enough for a young archer to hold up in the first place.

15 to 45 lb

Starts light enough for a child and reaches an adult practice weight.

18.25 to 29 in draw

Fits a small child through to a full-sized adult.

27.5 in axle-to-axle

Short and light in the hand, which is what a young archer needs to hold steady.

75% let-off

Only a quarter of the peak weight held at full draw, so a light shooter can aim rather than rush.

Product description

About this product

This is the compact adjustable compound that most beginner and youth packages are built around – a 27.5-inch axle-to-axle bow adjustable from 15 to 45 lb and from 18.25 to 29 inches of draw. It is an unbadged Chinese OEM platform sold under a number of different brand names, all to the same specification.

What makes it work for young archers is the combination of short and light. A 34-inch adult bow is a great deal of bow for a ten-year-old to hold out at arm-s length while aiming, and a tired archer is an inaccurate one. At 27.5 inches and 3.3 lb this stays steady in small hands.

75% let-off matters even more at these weights than it does on a heavy bow. At a 20 lb setting the archer holds only about 5 lb at full draw, which is the difference between having time to aim and snatching at the release. Compound archery is largely about that held moment, and a young shooter gets nothing out of a bow they cannot hold.

Both adjustments are made without a bow press – draw weight at the limb bolts with an Allen key, draw length at the module on the cam. That is not a small point in Tanzania, where there is no pro shop to press a bow for you, and it means the bow can follow a child through several years of growth.

It suits smaller adults too. Anyone who finds a full-size compound unwieldy, or who wants a light bow for backyard practice rather than hunting, is well served by this one.

Questions

Good to know

What age is it suitable for?

It depends on the child rather than the age. The draw length goes down to 18.25 in and the weight to 15 lb, which suits most children from around eight or nine upwards. Measure the child-s draw length before ordering - wingspan in inches divided by 2.5 is a good first estimate.

Is it strong enough for an adult?

For target and backyard practice, yes - 45 lb is a usable practice weight. For hunting you want a full-size bow: 45 lb is marginal, and the short 27.5 in axle-to-axle is less forgiving at distance.

Do I need tools to adjust it?

An Allen key for the limb bolts, and nothing at all for the draw length module. No bow press is needed, which matters here where there is no pro shop nearby.

What does 75% let-off mean for a child?

At a 20 lb setting they hold only about 5 lb once the cams roll over at full draw. That is what gives them time to aim properly instead of releasing the moment they reach full draw.

Which brand is it?

It is an unbadged Chinese OEM bow sold under several different brand names to the same specification. We list it by its specification rather than by a brand name that would not mean anything.

What else does a young archer need?

Arrows matched to the draw weight and length, an arm guard, a release aid or finger tab, and a foam target. Arrows for a light bow must be light and correctly spined - adult arrows will not fly from a 20 lb setting.

How should a child be supervised?

A bow is not a toy at any draw weight. Set a clear shooting line, one shooter at a time, nobody forward of the line, and a backstop behind the target. An arrow from a 15 lb bow will still injure someone badly.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
