Product description

About this product

These are one8 7 batting gloves – the accessible end of the one8 glove range.

one8 is worth explaining, because player-branded cricket equipment is usually just a name printed on an existing product. one8 is not that: it is Virat Kohli-s own brand, launched with Puma in 2017, with its own product lines, its own design direction and its own numbering. The black and gold is a one8 colourway rather than a Puma one.

The numbering runs downwards as it does across Puma cricket: one8 1 and 1.2 are the top of the range, and 7 is the entry. That is the honest position of this glove.

We need to flag something. Puma India no longer list the one8 7 – it is a discontinued season, and Puma publish no specifications for it: no palm material, no padding construction, no official sizing. Dealers sell it in small boys, boys, youth and mens. We would rather tell you that than repeat figures we cannot source.

What that means practically: tell us the hand size you need and whether you bat right or left handed, and we will check the stock and describe what is actually in the box before you commit. Being discontinued also means what we have is what there is.

Wear cotton inners underneath, as with any batting glove in this climate. They absorb the sweat that rots a lining, and they can be washed when the gloves cannot.

Questions

Good to know

What is one8?

Virat Kohli-s own brand, launched with Puma in 2017. It is a genuine sub-brand with its own product lines rather than a signature name printed on existing Puma products.

Why are there no specifications listed?

Because Puma no longer list this model - it is a discontinued season, and they publish nothing for it. Rather than repeat figures from retailer listings we cannot verify, we have said so. Ask us and we will describe the actual stock.

How should batting gloves fit?

Snug, with about half a centimetre at the fingertips. Too big and they slide on the handle and dull your feel for the bat; too small and your fingers press against the end, which is where a ball hits. Try them holding a bat rather than with an open hand.

Do batting gloves come in left and right hand versions?

Yes - a pair is made for a right-handed or a left-handed batsman. The protection is heaviest on the fingers of the bottom hand, because that is the hand facing the bowler on the bat handle. Tell us which you bat and we will confirm the stock.

What do the one8 numbers mean?

They run downwards, like Puma-s Future range: one8 1 and 1.2 are the highest specification, and the higher numbers are the more accessible models. This is the 7.

Should I wear inner gloves?

Yes, especially here. Cotton inners absorb the sweat that would otherwise soak into the glove lining and rot it, and they can be washed while the gloves cannot. In this humidity they roughly double the life of a pair.

How do I look after protective gear in this climate?

Take it out of the bag the moment you get home and let it dry in the shade. Padding and straps that stay damp in a closed kit bag grow mould and rot within weeks here - far faster than the equipment wears out from use. This is the single thing that decides how long cricket kit lasts in Tanzania.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
