Highlights

The club glove that still has a leather palm

The first thing manufacturers drop to hit a price is the leather palm. In a hot, humid climate that is the worst saving to make - a synthetic palm goes slippery with sweat and the bat starts turning in your hands. This one keeps the leather.

Leather palm

Keeps its grip when your hands are wet, which a synthetic palm does not.

TPU sheeting on the lower-hand fingers

Hard protection where a jammed ball lands.

Cotton-filled finger rolls with PVC padding

Traditional construction that spreads impact and stays flexible.

Spacer mesh back

Ventilated across the back of the hand - a real consideration in this heat.

About this product

Super Club Batting Gloves – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The SG Super Club is a club-grade batting glove with a leather palm, TPU sheeting on the lower-hand fingers and cotton-filled rolls.

The palm is the specification to check first when buying gloves for this climate. It is also the first thing manufacturers replace with synthetic material when cutting a price. A leather palm keeps its grip when your hands are sweating; a synthetic one goes slick, and a bat turning in your hands mid-shot is both dangerous and the fastest way to lose the bat entirely. Super Club keeps the leather.

The protection follows the same logic as every well-designed glove: heaviest on the bottom hand. On a bat handle the lower hand faces the bowler, and the index and middle fingers of that hand are the ones jammed against the handle when a ball lifts. TPU sheeting over those fingers takes the impact that cotton rolls alone would only cushion.

The spacer mesh back is a genuine feature in Tanzania. A closed-back glove seals heat and sweat in, and within a few overs it is unpleasant inside and beginning to rot. Mesh lets it out.

Sized junior, youth and adult, in right- and left-hand pairs. Wear cotton inner gloves underneath – they absorb the sweat that would otherwise destroy the glove-s lining, and they can be washed, which the gloves cannot.

Questions

Good to know

Why is the bottom hand padded more heavily?

Because of where it sits. On a bat handle the bottom hand faces the bowler, and a ball that jams into the handle or lifts off a length hits those fingers first. That is why good gloves put extra shells or rolls on the lower-hand fingers and why the two gloves in a pair are not identical.

Do batting gloves come in left and right hand versions?

Yes - a pair is made for a right-handed or a left-handed batsman, not interchangeable. The protection is heaviest on the fingers of the bottom hand, because that is the hand facing the bowler on the bat handle. Wearing the wrong pair puts the reinforcement on the wrong fingers. Tell us which you bat.

How should batting gloves fit?

Snug, with about half a centimetre of space at the fingertips. Gloves that are too big slide on the handle and dull your feel for the bat; too small and your fingers press against the end, which is exactly where a ball hits. Try them holding a bat rather than with an open hand.

Why does the palm material matter so much here?

Sweat. In Dar es Salaam humidity a synthetic palm goes slick within a few overs and the bat starts turning in your hands. Leather keeps its grip when wet, which is why it is the one specification worth paying for on a batting glove.

Should I wear inner gloves?

Yes. Cotton inners absorb the sweat that otherwise soaks into the glove lining and rots it, and inners can be washed while the gloves cannot. In this climate they roughly double the life of a pair of gloves.

How long do batting gloves last?

A season or two of regular cricket. They go when the palm wears through, when a TPU shell cracks, or when the padding compresses flat. Check the bottom-hand fingers - that is where a glove actually dies.

How do I look after protective gear in this climate?

Take it out of the bag the moment you get home and let it dry in the shade. Padding and straps that stay damp in a closed kit bag grow mould and rot within weeks here - far faster than the equipment wears out from use. This is the single thing that decides how long cricket kit lasts in Tanzania.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
