About this product
Wicket Keeping Inner Gloves – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.
These are Puma-s Future 3 wicketkeeping inner gloves – padded cotton at the front, mesh at the back, with a towelling wristband.
Keeping inners do more work than batting inners and are built differently. A wicketkeeper takes several hundred deliveries directly into the hands over an innings – every ball the bowler bowls that the batsman does not hit. Even with good gloves, that is a great deal of repeated impact on the palms, and a padded inner is what stands between it and sore hands for three days afterwards.
The towelling wristband is the feature worth noticing. A keeper crouches with the forearms above the hands, so sweat runs down the arm and straight into the cuff of the glove. An absorbent elasticated band at the wrist intercepts it. In Dar es Salaam humidity that is the difference between gloves that are still dry inside at drinks and gloves that are wet from the tenth over.
Mesh across the back lets heat out, and stitched-in flex lines mean the inner bends where the hand bends instead of bunching into a wrinkle in the palm – which is where blisters come from.
Buy two pairs. Inners are washed after every session and one pair is never dry when you need it. They also do the job that actually saves you money: taking the sweat that would otherwise soak into and rot the lining of an expensive pair of keeping gloves.
