Highlights

Five sizes, starting properly small

Fitting junior cricketers is where school kit bags fail. Gloves that are too big slide on the handle and give a child no feel for the bat at all. Starting at extra-small junior is what lets a school actually equip an age group rather than approximate it.

Five sizes from XS Junior

XS Junior, S Junior, Junior, Youth and Adult - a genuine junior range.

Leather palm patch

Leather where the hand grips the handle, cotton elsewhere to keep the price down.

Cotton-filled finger rolls with PVC padding

Conventional protection across the fingers.

Entry price

SG-s cheapest batting glove, which is what makes kitting out a school realistic.

About this product

Sg Campus Batting Gloves – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The SG Campus is SG-s entry-level batting glove, and its real value is the size range.

Fitting children with gloves is a persistent problem. A glove that is too big slides around on the bat handle, which means a young player has no feel for the bat and cannot grip it properly – and a bad grip is the foundation of a bad technique. Most ranges offer one junior size and then jump to youth. Five sizes starting at extra-small junior is what lets a school or a club actually fit an age group.

The construction reflects the price honestly. The back is cotton rather than mesh, and the palm is cotton reinforced with a leather patch where the hand actually grips – so you get leather where it matters and save the cost elsewhere. The fingers have PVC padding and cotton-filled rolls, which is conventional protection.

Be realistic about what it is. This is a school and first-season glove. It has no hard shells on the bottom-hand fingers, which means it cushions a jammed ball rather than stopping it. For a player facing genuinely quick bowling with a hard ball, step up to a glove with TPU shells – we stock those too.

Wear cotton inners under them. In this humidity they absorb the sweat that would otherwise rot the lining, and unlike the gloves they can be washed.

Questions

Good to know

How should batting gloves fit?

Snug, with about half a centimetre of space at the fingertips. Gloves that are too big slide on the handle and dull your feel for the bat; too small and your fingers press against the end, which is exactly where a ball hits. Try them holding a bat rather than with an open hand.

Do batting gloves come in left and right hand versions?

Yes - a pair is made for a right-handed or a left-handed batsman. The protection is heaviest on the fingers of the bottom hand, because that is the hand facing the bowler on the bat handle. Wearing the wrong pair puts the reinforcement on the wrong fingers. Tell us which you bat.

Is it enough protection for hard-ball cricket?

For school cricket and a first season, yes. It has no hard shells on the bottom-hand fingers, so it cushions a jammed ball rather than stopping it. A player facing genuinely quick bowling should step up to a glove with TPU shells.

Why is the bottom hand padded more heavily?

Because of where it sits. On a bat handle the bottom hand faces the bowler, and a ball that jams into the handle or lifts off a length hits those fingers first. That is why good gloves put extra protection on the lower-hand fingers, and why the two gloves in a pair are not identical.

Should I wear inner gloves?

Yes, especially here. Cotton inners absorb the sweat that would otherwise soak into the glove lining and rot it, and inners can be washed while the gloves cannot. In this humidity they roughly double the life of a pair of gloves.

Why does the size range matter for a school?

Because a glove that is too big slides on the handle and gives a child no feel for the bat, which is where a poor grip and a poor technique start. Five sizes from extra-small junior is what lets you fit a whole age group properly.

How do I look after protective gear in this climate?

Take it out of the bag the moment you get home and let it dry in the shade. Padding and straps that stay damp in a closed kit bag grow mould and rot within weeks here - far faster than the equipment wears out from use. This is the single thing that decides how long cricket kit lasts in Tanzania.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
