The heavy one. 700 g/m2 of fill in a 210 x 82 cm rectangular bag, with a waterproof-coated 210T lattice polyester outer and a brushed lining that feels like a blanket rather than a nylon sack. At 3 kg it is not going in a rucksack – it is the bag you keep in the vehicle for genuinely cold nights.

In Tanzanian terms that means altitude and the southern winter: Ngorongoro rim, the Kilimanjaro and Meru approach camps, and the Southern Highlands in June and July.

Where would I use a bag this warm in Tanzania?

Altitude and the southern winter: Ngorongoro rim, Kilimanjaro and Meru camps, and Mbeya, Njombe or Iringa in June and July. On the coast or in the low parks it will be far too hot.

What temperature is it rated to?

The supplier publishes the fill weight rather than a tested temperature rating, and we will not invent one. 700 g/m2 is a genuine winter fill - for a comparable figure, our Naturehike M400 is EN rated at about 1 °C comfort with 400 g/m2.

How heavy is it to carry?

3 kg. That is a vehicle bag. If you need to carry your bag, the LW180 at 680 g or the M400 at 1.85 kg are the sensible choices.

Is the outer really waterproof?

It is a waterproof-coated lattice polyester, which handles condensation, damp ground and the odd splash. It is not a bivvy bag and should not be slept in outside in rain.

Can I use it as a duvet at home?

Yes - many people do, since it is rectangular and opens flat. It is a common use on a camp cot or in a cold lodge room.

How do I wash it?

Spot clean where you can. A bag this thick takes a very long time to dry, and drying it fully matters in our humidity - never store it damp.

How should I store it?

Loose and dry, not compressed in the stuff sack. Long compression flattens the fill and costs you warmth.
