Front Runner Black Tie Down Rings (RRAC012)

Car Upgrades

Tie-down points you can put anywhere. These galvanised steel rings slide into the T-slots of a Front Runner rack and hand-tighten - no tools - so the anchor point goes exactly where the load needs it rather than where the rack happens to have a hole.

Highlights

Anchor points wherever the load needs them

Slide a ring into the T-slot, hand tighten, done. Move it next time. It is the small part that makes a rack actually usable.

Goes anywhere on the rack

Slides along the T-slots on the top, bottom and side rails, so you place anchor points to suit each load rather than working around fixed holes.

No tools needed

Hand tighten and it is secure. Move it in thirty seconds when the next load is a different shape.

Galvanised and powder coated

Galvanised steel under a black powder coat - two layers of corrosion protection, which coastal Tanzanian air makes worth having.

Low profile

Sits close to the rack when nothing is clipped to it, so it does not snag, rattle or spoil the look of the vehicle.

Product description

About this product

The most common frustration with a roof rack is that the thing you want to strap down never lines up with a place to hook a strap. These solve that completely. Each ring slides into the T-slot of a Front Runner rack slat and hand-tightens where you put it – top rail, bottom rail or side rail – so the anchor point goes where the load needs it.

No tools are involved. You slide the ring along the slot, position it and tighten by hand. When the next trip carries something a different shape, you move it. That is a small thing that changes how much a rack gets used, because the alternative – improvising a strap route around rack slats – is what makes people stop bothering to tie things down properly.

The rings are galvanised steel with a black powder coat over the top. That is two layers of corrosion protection rather than one, which matters in Dar es Salaam and along the coast where salt air works on any exposed steel fitting. They sit low against the rack when nothing is clipped to them, so there is nothing to snag a rope on or to rattle at speed.

They take Stratchits, ratchet straps, rope or bungee cords equally, and they are sold in pairs. Most vehicles end up with four or six of them, because they cost little and each one removes a small annoyance.

Questions

Good to know

How many do I need?

Most people fit four to six on a vehicle. Two is the minimum for a single load; four gives you corners; six means you rarely have to move any of them.

Do I need tools to fit them?

No. They slide into the T-slot and hand-tighten. Moving one takes about thirty seconds.

Where on the rack can they go?

Anywhere along the T-slots on the top, bottom and side rails, so the anchor point can be placed exactly where a particular load needs it.

Will they rust at the coast?

They are galvanised under the powder coat, so there are two layers of protection. If the coating chips, touch it up rather than leaving bare steel in salt air.

What load will they take?

Front Runner do not publish a load rating for these rings. Treat them as tie-down anchors for normal cargo, and never use them for recovery, towing or lifting.

Will they fit my rack?

They fit Front Runner rack systems with T-slot slats. If you have a different rack, bring a photograph or a measurement of the slot to the Dar es Salaam showroom and we will tell you honestly.

Are they sold singly?

They come in pairs. Tell us how many pairs you need and we will confirm stock.

Do they rattle at speed?

No - they sit low against the rack when nothing is clipped in, which is what the low-profile shape is for.
