Highlights

Lifts 94.6 cm, not 20

A lifted vehicle with a wheel down a rut needs a jack that can reach. This one lifts to nearly a metre and does three other jobs besides.

4,660 lb rated, 7,000 lb tested

2,113 kg rated and 3,175 kg tested - the figures a loaded, lifted 4x4 needs from a jack.

Lifts to 94.6 cm

A bottle jack runs out of travel long before a raised vehicle with a wheel in a hole is back on the ground. This one does not.

Lift, winch, clamp, pull

The same tool pulls a vehicle sideways off an obstacle, clamps as a spreader, or winches short distances with a chain.

Cast and stamped steel

Built to be used outdoors and abused, and to still work after years on the outside of a vehicle.

Product description

About this product

Anyone who has tried to change a wheel on a lifted, loaded 4×4 on soft ground knows the problem with a bottle jack: by the time it reaches the chassis, it has no travel left, and the wheel is still in the hole. A Hi-Lift jack is the answer to that specific situation – a mechanical jack lifting to 94.6 cm, so there is height to work with however deep the wheel has sunk.

It is rated at 4,660 lb – 2,113 kg – and tested to 7,000 lb, which covers a loaded Land Cruiser or Hilux comfortably. Minimum lift height is 11.4 cm, so it also gets under a vehicle sitting low. The construction is cast and stamped steel parts on a steel bar, built to live on the outside of a vehicle and still work years later.

Lifting is only one of its jobs. With a chain and a shackle it becomes a hand winch for pulling a vehicle a few feet at a time, a spreader for straightening a bent panel, and a way to drag a vehicle sideways off an obstacle that it cannot simply drive off. In a group of vehicles in Ruaha or the Selous, one of these covers several recovery scenarios that nothing else in the kit will touch.

It demands respect. The handle stores real energy under load and will fly up if it is released – that is how people get hurt with these. Keep the handle clipped up when the jack is under load, never get under a vehicle held only by a jack, and read the instructions before the day you need it rather than on it.

Questions

Good to know

Is it safe to get under a vehicle held on this jack?

No. Never get under a vehicle supported only by any jack, this one included. Lift it, then put axle stands or solid blocks under the chassis before anyone goes near the underside.

Why do people say Hi-Lift jacks are dangerous?

Because the handle stores real energy under load and will swing up hard if it is released. Keep the handle clipped in the upright position whenever the jack is loaded, keep your face and body clear of its arc, and never let anyone stand in line with it.

Will it lift my vehicle?

Rated at 2,113 kg and tested to 3,175 kg, it handles a loaded Land Cruiser, Hilux, Defender or similar. Lift at a solid point - a rock slider, a proper jacking point or a bumper rated for it - never at plastic bodywork.

What can I use it for besides lifting?

With a chain and shackles it works as a hand winch for short pulls, as a clamp or spreader, and to drag a vehicle sideways off an obstacle. That versatility is why overlanders carry one.

Where should I carry it?

On the outside of the vehicle, on a rack, using a Hi-Lift jack bracket - we stock the Front Runner bracket alongside it. A 12.5 kg steel jack loose inside a vehicle is a serious hazard in an accident.

Does it need maintenance?

Yes, and this is the part people skip. Keep the bar clean and free of mud and rust and the climbing mechanism lightly oiled. A seized Hi-Lift is a Hi-Lift that fails when you finally need it.

Which exact model is this?

Front Runner supply Hi-Lift jacks in more than one variant and their part numbering has changed. The figures above are the published specification for the 48 inch cast and steel Hi-Lift jack. Message us and we will confirm the exact variant on our shelf before you order.

Do you deliver upcountry?

Yes, we ship across Tanzania - Arusha, Moshi, Iringa and elsewhere. Message us with your town for cost and timing.
