Miracle Shine is a polish and protectant rather than a cleaner – the last step, applied to a bike that is already clean and dry.

Muc-Off build it around a fusion of three separate waxes including carnauba, which is the hard natural wax used in quality car polishes. Applied and buffed off, it knits together an ultra-tough microscopic layer that repels water and atmospheric pollutants, so surfaces stay cleaner between washes and the finish lasts longer.

That pollutant point is not marketing filler in Dar es Salaam. Traffic film, coastal salt and construction dust all sit on a finish and etch it slowly. A wax layer is what they sit on instead.

When do I use it?

Last. Wash the bike, dry it, then polish. Applying wax over dust just grinds the dust into the finish.

Will it make the bike slippery to hold?

The bars and saddle are the two places not to polish. Everywhere else the buffed film is dry and not slippery, but leave grips, bar tape and the saddle alone.

Will it harm my disc brakes?

Keep any oil, lube or polish off the rotors and pads. If a lube or spray reaches a rotor the brake will squeal and lose power, and a contaminated pad usually has to be replaced. Cover or shield the rotors when you spray, and wipe rotors with a dedicated disc brake cleaner if anything lands on them.

Does the heat here change how I should use it?

Yes. Wash in shade or early morning. In full Dar sun a cleaner dries on the frame before you can rinse it, which leaves streaks and stops it working. Keep the surface wet while the product does its job.

I ride near the coast. Does salt air matter?

It does. Salt-laden air off the Indian Ocean accelerates corrosion on chains, cassettes, cables and bolts far faster than inland. Rinse the bike after a beach or Kigamboni ride, dry it, and re-lube - that single habit does more for drivetrain life here than any upgrade.

Can I use it on my car or boat?

How should I store it in this climate?

Keep it out of direct sun and away from a hot car boot. Aerosols and solvent-based products do not enjoy sitting at 40 degrees C, and a cupboard indoors is fine. Close the cap properly - humidity on the coast gets into anything left open.
