Highlights

The poles that turn a flysheet into shade

Sold as a pair, because a tarp needs two.

2.4 m in four sections

Slot together to 240 cm and break down to 68 cm, so they travel flat in a boot or a roof box.

Built for sun shelters

Made to prop a tarp, an awning or a tent lobby into a proper shaded porch.

Galvanised against rust

Galvanised iron stands up to coast air and rain far better than plain steel.

Carry bag included

The pair packs into the supplied sleeve so the sections stay together.

Product description

About this product

Most tarps and flysheets are sold without poles, and most tents that advertise a porch expect you to supply the uprights. These are those uprights: a matched pair of 2.4 m galvanised iron poles, each made up of four sections that push together and lock with a sprung clasp.

At 2.4 cm diameter they are noticeably thicker than the poles bundled with a cheap gazebo, which is what you want when the afternoon wind comes off the water and a light aluminium pole starts to bend.

Key Features

  • Four sections per pole, assembling to 240 cm
  • 2.4 cm diameter galvanised iron tube
  • Sprung metal clasps hold each joint closed
  • Break down to a 68 cm bundle
  • Supplied as a pair with a carry bag

Who It Suits

Anyone using a tarp, a sun shelter or a tent with an extendable porch. They are the standard answer for propping the front of a flysheet into an awning at a campsite, a fishing spot or a beach plot, and they are heavy enough to stay put once guyed.

What Is Included

  • 2 x four-section canopy poles, silver
  • 1 x carry bag

Questions

Good to know

Is this one pole or two?

Two. The price and the 2.5 kg weight are for the pair, which is what a tarp or an awning front needs.

Can I use them to hold up a tarp on their own?

Yes, with guy lines. Two poles at the front corners and four guy lines will hold a tarp in ordinary weather. Peg the guys out wide rather than steep, and use a proper ground nail in sand.

Will they rust on the coast?

The galvanising is there for exactly that. Salt air is still salt air, so rinse them with fresh water after a trip to the beach and dry them before they go back in the bag.

Are they adjustable in height?

No, these lock at their full 240 cm or you leave a section out. They are not telescopic.

Will they fit my tent awning?

If your tent has an extendable porch or a flysheet with pole pockets, a 2.4 cm pole is the usual size. Bring the tent to the shop if you want to be certain.

How do I stop them sinking into soft ground?

Stand each pole on a flat stone, a paving slab or an offcut of board. On a beach that single step is the difference between a shelter that holds all afternoon and one that sags.

Can I carry them on a motorbike or in a small car?

Packed they are a 68 cm bundle, so yes, easily.

What maintenance do they need?

Wipe them dry before storage and keep the clasps clean of sand. Any grit in a joint will make the section stick.
