About this product

Tent poles snap at the ferrule, usually in wind, usually at night. A repair sleeve is the fix that gets you through the rest of the trip: slide the tube over the broken section so it spans the break evenly, tape both ends down, and the pole carries load again.

These are 6061 aluminium, anodised red, 128 mm long with an internal bore of 9 to 11 mm, which covers the 8.5 mm poles used in most backpacking and dome tents. Four come in the pack, and they weigh so little there is no reason to leave them at home.

Who It Suits

Every tent owner, and especially anyone camping far from a shop. Keep the pack in the tent bag rather than the repair kit at home, because that is where it will be needed. It also splints a broken trekking pole section or a bent canopy rod in an emergency.

Good to know

How do I actually use one?

Line the broken ends of the pole back up, slide the tube over so the break sits in the middle of it, and tape both ends of the tube to the pole with gear tape or duct tape. The tape is what stops it sliding, so do not skip it.

Will it fit my tent poles?

The bore is 9 to 11 mm, which covers the 8.5 mm poles used in most dome and backpacking tents. Measure yours with a ruler across the end of a pole section before you buy if you are unsure.

Is this a permanent repair?

Treat it as a good field repair. It will hold for the rest of a trip and often for seasons, but the pole is weaker at that point and it is worth ordering a replacement section.

What if the pole shatters rather than snaps cleanly?

Splinters will stop the sleeve sliding on. Trim the worst of them with a knife or pliers, then fit the tube. If the break is at a ferrule, splint across the ferrule joint.

Can I use it on a canopy or gazebo pole?

Only on poles that fit the bore. Gazebo uprights are far thicker. These are for tent poles and similar thin rods.

Where should I keep them?

In the tent bag itself, with the pegs. A repair kit that lives in a cupboard at home has never saved anyone a night.

Will the aluminium corrode on the coast?

The anodising handles ordinary salt air. Rinse and dry them if they have been used on a beach trip.

What else should be in a tent repair kit here?
