Square-bill crankbaits exist for one reason: to be fished into things. The flat, wide lip makes the lure deflect off rock, timber, coral and weed rather than burying into them, and it is the deflection itself that catches fish – a crankbait that kicks sideways after hitting something looks exactly like a startled baitfish, and predators react to it.
That means this is a shallow-water, structure-hunting lure rather than an open-water one. At 60 mm and 12 g it runs shallow, floats at rest so you can stop winding and let it back off a snag, and casts well on light tackle. The body is ABS with 3D eyes, fitted with VMC trebles.
It is aimed at freshwater predators – Noeby list bass and pike – and inland it is a good tigerfish and small Nile perch lure on Tanzania lakes and dams. Inshore it will take small queenfish and snapper around rock and jetty pilings, though it is a light-tackle lure rather than a saltwater one.
