If you were buying one spinner, this would be the weight. At 15 g it casts a genuine distance on an ordinary 3000 to 4000 size outfit, sinks fast enough to fish water a few metres deep, and is still light enough to use all day without fatigue. The lighter 7.4 g is better in calm clear water; the 22.5 g is better into wind and current; this one covers the rest.
The mechanism is the same as any spinner – a blade rotating around a weighted body, throwing flash and a steady vibration. That vibration is what makes spinners so effective in coloured water and at dawn and dusk: a fish finds the lure with its lateral line long before it sees it.
Cast, and wind back just fast enough to feel the blade turning in the rod tip. Slow down to run deeper, speed up to bring it higher, and pause occasionally so the lure flutters.
Around Dar es Salaam it takes queenfish, barracuda, small kingfish and trevally off the rocks, jetties and beaches. Inland it is a very good tigerfish, Nile perch, bass and catfish lure.
