Highlights

Pinchers that stand up

The claws float. At rest the bait sits on the bottom with its pinchers raised, exactly the way a real crayfish faces down a predator - and that posture is what gets eaten.

4 in (9.5 cm), 9 g

A substantial craw with enough weight to pitch accurately without a heavy jighead.

Floating pinchers

The claws lift at rest into a natural defensive posture rather than lying flat.

Three per pack

Soft plastics are consumables - this size comes three to a bag.

Flipping and pitching

A beefy but streamlined body that slips into heavy cover without hanging up.

Product description

About this product

Soft Lure – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

Crawfish are on the menu almost everywhere there is structure, and a soft plastic craw is one of the most consistently effective baits there is. What separates a good one is what it does when it stops moving, because that is when most fish take it. The Alive Craws have floating pinchers, so at rest on the bottom the claws lift into the raised, defensive posture a real crayfish adopts when something threatens it – which is exactly the image a bass or a perch is looking for.

The 4-inch size is 9.5 cm and around 9 g, with a body Noeby describe as beefy but streamlined – heavy enough to pitch accurately, slim enough to slip into heavy cover without hanging up. It comes three to a pack, and Noeby recommend rigging it on a 1/0, 2/0 or 3/0 hook with a 10 to 28 g jighead.

Noeby own line on it is that it is deadly anywhere gamefish are feeding on small crustaceans, and great for flipping and pitching. In Tanzania that means the lakes, dams and rivers for bass, tigerfish and Nile perch, and inshore it will take snapper and small grouper worked along rock and reef.

A smaller 2.5 in version at 6 cm and 1.6 g is also made, six to a pack, for lighter jigheads of 2 to 10 g.

Buying a Soft Lure in Dar es Salaam

361 Degrees Adventure keeps the soft lure at our showroom in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, with delivery countrywide across Tanzania. Come and handle it before you buy, or order online and collect.

Every soft lure is checked in store before it leaves us, and our staff use the same kit in the field, so you get an honest answer on fit and sizing rather than a sales pitch.

Not sure which soft lure suits you? Call or message the showroom and we will talk you through the options that are actually in stock in Tanzania.

Spare parts and replacements for the soft lure are easier to get here than on an overseas order, which matters once the gear is in use.

Questions

Good to know

How do I rig it?

On a 1/0 to 3/0 hook with a 10-28 g jighead for open water, or Texas-rigged with a bullet weight for heavy cover. Texas rigging makes it almost weedless, which is the point of a craw.

Why do the floating pinchers matter?

Because most takes happen when the bait is still. Claws that float lift into the defensive posture a real crayfish adopts, so the bait looks alive on the bottom instead of looking like a dead piece of plastic.

Where does it work in Tanzania?

Inland mostly - the lakes, dams and rivers for bass, tigerfish and Nile perch, worked along rock, timber and drop-offs. Inshore it will take snapper and small grouper along rock and reef.

How many are in a pack?

Three for the 4 in size. The smaller 2.5 in version comes six to a bag.

How long does one last?

Until the body tears at the hook - usually several fish. Soft plastics are consumables, so buy more than one pack of anything you intend to fish seriously.

What is flipping and pitching?

Short, accurate, underhand casts that drop the bait into tight spots - under a bush, against a rock, into a gap in cover - with almost no splash. It is how craws are usually fished.

How do I store soft plastics in this heat?

Out of direct sun and out of a hot car, in their own bag. Heat deforms them, and different brands left touching each other will melt together.

Do I need a jighead as well?

Yes, unless you are Texas-rigging with a bullet weight. The lure is an unrigged soft plastic - the hook and weight are separate. We stock both; ask us what suits.
