Highlights

The most useful square in the vehicle

Cargo cover, rain roof, ground sheet, shade. One sheet, four jobs.

Waterproof both faces

Woven polyethylene laminated on both sides, so water beads off rather than soaking through.

Eyelets all round

Metal eyelets in a reinforced hem take rope, bungee or a ground nail at any point on the edge.

UV and rot resistant

Polyethylene does not mildew the way a canvas tarp does in coastal humidity.

2.4 x 2.4 m

Square, which makes it easy to rig as a diamond, a lean-to or a flat roof.

Product description

About this product

A tarpaulin is the one piece of kit that earns its place on every trip without ever being the reason for one. This is a 2.4 x 2.4 metre square of woven polyethylene, laminated on both faces so it sheds water, with the hem folded over a rope and metal eyelets punched through at intervals along all four sides.

Square is deliberately useful. Rigged flat between four trees it is a rain roof. Pitched as a diamond off a single pole it is a lean-to. Folded double it is a groundsheet under a tent, and spread over a load in a pickup it keeps the rain off the way nothing else this cheap does.

Questions

Good to know

How heavy is the fabric?

The supplier does not publish a gram-per-square-metre figure for this sheet, and we will not print one we cannot stand behind. Come and feel it in the shop, or ask us and we will weigh the folded sheet for you.

Will it survive a full rainy season outdoors?

Left permanently in the sun, any polyethylene tarpaulin eventually goes brittle, usually at the folds and around the eyelets. Rigged taut with no flapping and taken down between uses, it will last several seasons here.

Can I use it as a tent groundsheet?

Yes, but fold the edges under so none of it sticks out past the tent. An exposed edge collects rain running off the fly and channels it under your floor.

How do I stop it flapping itself to death?

Tension is everything. Guy it out tight from opposite corners and add a pole or a ridge line in the middle so no panel is loose. A flapping tarp destroys its own eyelets within a couple of nights.

What rope should I use?

Any 4 to 6 mm polypropylene or nylon line. Pass it through the eyelet and use a tensioner or a truckers hitch so you can pull the sheet tight and retighten it after rain.

Will the eyelets pull out?

They hold in normal use. If you are rigging in real wind, spread the load across several eyelets rather than hanging everything on the corners.

Can it be repaired?

Yes. Clean and dry the area and use a strip of TPU repair tape or a purpose-made tarpaulin patch over the tear, on both sides if you can reach.

How should I store it?

Dry and loosely folded, out of the sun. Storing it wet and tightly folded in Dar humidity is how a good tarpaulin comes out smelling and stuck together.
